U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo's social media commentary earned her the wrath of Brazilians before she arrived in Rio. She dug a much deeper hole for herself Friday by insulting the Swedish team that had just bounced the heavily favored Americans from the tournament in a penalty shootout.
"I'm very proud of this team. But I also think we played a bunch of cowards. The best team did not win today. I think you saw American heart. You saw us give everything we had today," she told reporters. "Sweden dropped off. They didn't want to open play. They didn't want to pass the ball. They didn't want to play great soccer."
"I don't think they're going to make it far in the tournament," she added. "I think it was very cowardly."

She’s an entitled sore loser (and probably has been miserable since Japan beat them in the World Cup final in 2011).

I was in Berlin three weeks ago on our way to Krakow for WYD. Had nice 3 hour tour for our young Americans that included the Reichstag, Checkpoint Charlie/Berlin Wall and a drive through some of the historic neighborhoods. Tour guide was a native Berliner whose mother came over from East Germany who gave us some unfiltered history. Great lesson for the “kids”. Berlin is also quite beautiful.

Solo has “tude” problems for sure. But, she’s still the best woman keeper on the planet. About the changing out the gloves; a tactic similar to icing a field goal kicker in American football. Actually a smart move.
Soccer is a kid’s game, real football is here now.
We have been many times having been stationed in Germany. Our favorite city in Europe!
Sounds like a really sore loser - the purpose of the game is to win using whatever strategy (within the rules) works.
She choked in the shootout. Taking her frustrations out on the Swedes. Maybe she’ll go and beat up her husband after this.
I might have some respect for her if she use yesterday’s loss to complain about the stupid rules that allow an inferior team to win a soccer game this way, instead of bad-mouthing the opposing team.
So much for the raise they were whining about.

Soccer is for kids, women, and metro-sexual men. Real football starts in a couple weeks.

Soccer’s only saving grace is that it led to a real sport - Rugby!

From the stats it looks like the US women played soccer the way the KC Royals played baseball - last year anyway. Hope they still are - the Royals I mean.

I’m assuming “Resting B*tch Face”. A term I’ve only heard within the last few years but a concept that goes way back. That person whose expression looks hostile no matter the circumstance.
