Islam is a deadly totalitarian political system masquerading as a religion.
Few in the West know this and/or are willing to admit it.
Being honest about this doesn't mean hating Muslims. It means understanding the religion and why it is dangerous to the rights and freedoms and way of life in the West, and why that danger probably isn't going to go away.
The last Pope seems to have understood this.

All of the latter parts of the koran calling for killing infidels makes it pretty much of a no-go in most countries except those countries lead by the insane.
The problem with Islam is its fundamental doctrine, not errant practices. I find the “Islam needs a reformation like Christianity had” to be offensive. Very offensive. The fundamental doctrine of Islam, as taught by it’s founder, is kill those who do not believe. It’s a death cult, comparing it to ANY religion is naive.
It was strange to hear former Pope Benedict described as ‘the last Pope’. I know it was meant in a different context, but many do wonder what the end goals of Christianity will be, in the opinion of Pope Francis.
Reform, like reformed Judaism and liberal Christianity, would be a movement away from its primary literary source.

Unless the false prophet returns and changes everything himself, then it’s impossible to “reform”.
OTOH, muslims themselves can be “reformed”. They can decide that islam is neither a true or good religion, they can investigate Judaism and Christianity, and convert! Leave the evil of islam behind and choose life!
Islam has already had its reformation. It happened in the 1740s, about 200 years after the European reformation, and its descendants are the fastest growing and most successful evangelists for Islam.
They are called ISIS.
You can’t reform Islam.
Every word in the Koran was delivered to Mohammed by the ‘angel’ Jibriel.
Further more, the bandit, murderer, rapist, and pedophile, Mohammed is the ‘Perfect Man’ of Islam.
To change one word of the Koran or to imply that Mohammed’s behavior was less than ideal, and not a model for all Moslems, is heresy and apostasy and is punishable by death.
You cannot ‘reform’ something like that.

Still, a reformation is called for. it needs to be tried.
