Divorced Men, need feedback ...

Posted on 08/02/2016 10:56:43 AM PDT by Scythian_Reborn

I've been married 25 years, I'm not going to go into the reasons but I just need to file for divorce, we have three kids, youngest is in high school. Love them more than I can say, to live in a different house than them is the most terrible thing I can imagine.

Already my heart is breaking just thinking about it but there's no saving this marriage. Have any of you been through such a thing? How did you cope with the loneliness. I am not a drinker and don't have a lot of friends.

Do any of you regret it terribly, I need to know ...

EVERYONE puts on weight with age.

It happens as the body’s metabolism slows down and hormones change.

I’ve read where it actually could be beneficial to have a few extra pounds on, especially when you are older. Apparently in older folks who have debilitating health problems, the ones with the few extra pounds are more likely to pull through.

And honestly, I’ve seen older folks who are teenage skinny and it looks downright awful. They look emaciated.

And honestly, beer guts don’t count in this, nor does obese, but a man ought to have a little meat on his bones.

Scrawny men were never attractive to me.

That’s true. You lose fat and collagen in your face as you age, so a little extra weight on you can help plump your face back out.

My mother always said that when you get older you either need to let your body or your face go, because you can’t have both.

Decisions, decisions.

I like to say that clothes cover a multitude of sins.

Not to justify being obese or seriously overweight by any means, but people see my face first and the right clothes can cover some bulges (plumpness) adequately.

Learn the financial hits you’ll likely take, especially if you gave her the blessing of being a stay at home mother (it works against you). Research attorneys, get a proven winner. Learn about the judges in your venue, especially if female. Plan on a trial and $10k minimum for lawyer. Spend a couple hours with your lawyer before filing, ask about all aspects, possibilities and likelihoods. File first.

Or, stay together, in separate bedrooms, with separate living rooms, doing your own things without her, in a sexless, intimacy-less existence, smiling when you’re with family and friends, until one of you dies or goes to the nursing home. The norm.

Went through it a few years ago.

It takes time — a lot of time — and a lot of money.

I would advise you to prepare for long periods away from your kids, but there’s no way to prepare for that. It sucks. It’s hard. It’s brutal. It’s miserable. It’s unavoidable. Enjoy every minute you will have with them. Blow off everything and everyone else for those precious moments with them. That’s all that matters in the long term.

Make no mistake: Life will suck for a while. More than you ever thought that life could suck. It will be lonely, excruciating and seemingly endless at times. But, some day it will get better. Then, a little better. Then, life will be very good, indeed. I promise.

Freepmail me if you like. You will need friends during this time.

my marriage went down at 28 years.
there was no infidelity or abuse on either side, just a general disagreement on everything.
our children were out of the house by then.
she initiated it.
i agreed to give her the house and 4 years of alimony.
so here is my advice:
don’t tell her that if a doctor ever tells you that you have 5 months to live - she’s got 4. that cost me 10 grand.
don’t tell her that you will outlive her no matter what happens and you will piss on her grave. that cost me 10 grand.
if her mother dies in the middle of the whole thing, don’t tell her that it will probably take at least a month for that cold witch to get to room temperature. that cost me 5 grand.
remember - alimony is tax deductible to you and income to her.
get a woman lawyer.
