I'm not much older than you. There wasn't much history taught in high school when I was there, either. Furthermore, I had to be threatened with torture and certain death just to get me into a history class.
Now I enjoy history a great deal and have been reading full-spectrum. I really like WWII history a lot. I also enjoy digging up as much as I can regarding the development process that led to the Apollo landings. The Romans also tickle my fancy as do those crusty old Vikings.
Maybe Ike would have had more hair because he would not have to have put up with Rommel’s mouth and smacking PTSD cases.
Germany was making meth under the trade name Pervitin, and apparently civilians and soldiers were using it. Maybe thats how they cured “battle fatigue”.
Surely you are referring to Patton. Rommel was a German Field Marshall.
It was the press corps that made life miserable for Patton. As usual, the liberal bed-wetters liked to pick on real men and deride our military. Ike bent to the press because he was a total political animal. If we would have had more men like Patton, the war would have been a lot shorter.
