Europe's top youngsters are vying for the Young Player of the Tournament at UEFA EURO 2016 – and several have made eye-catching contributions in France.

Presented by SOCAR, the new award is open to all players born on or after 1 January 1994 and will be chosen by the UEFA technical observers. Led by UEFA chief technical officer Ioan Lupescu and including Sir Alex Ferguson and Alain Giresse, the observers are attending all 51 EURO matches.

The former Wales striker, John Hartson, has said his friend and former captain, Gary Speed, will inspire the current side to victory against Belgium.

The former Welsh manager took his own life at his home in Cheshire in 2011 aged 42.

Many in the current Wales team at Euro 2016 were given their first games under him and John Hartson reckons they'll be doing it for their old boss.

The pressure that come with being a so-called ‘Golden Generation’ is often disregarded. When a country stumbles across its best group of players in decades, maybe ever, it’s presumed that success will naturally follow. That the fulfilment of their potential is not a question of if, but when.

Of course, that’s not always the case. England’s ‘Golden Generation’ didn’t even make it past the quarter-finals of a major tournament, failing to even qualify for the 2008 European Championships. Now the pressure that comes with such a tag has fallen on the shoulders of Belgium. Their current generation is a golden one and they are expected to distinguish it with silverware.
