As the first American president to visit the city where the U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb, Obama came to acknowledge - but not apologize for - an act many Americans see as a justified end to a brutal war that Japan started with a sneak attack at Pearl Harbor.
Some 140,000 people died after a U.S. warplane targeted wartime Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945, and 70,000 more perished in Nagasaki, where a second bomb was dropped three days later. Japan soon surrendered....

Because firebombing every major city in japan and destroying almost all of their infrastructure while dragging thew war on for another few years as millions of innocent civilians ( who had no say about who was running their country since they had a Emperor at the time) starved to death in Japan would have been so much merciful than ending the war quickly so MacArthur could start rebuilding and turning them into a needed ally in pacific to counter the red threat from china.....

Let us say that the entire world, including the US, gives up nuclear weapons, what would the results be? Would the US remain the “sine qua non” (without equal) in terms of military power?
Not as the US Military is currently setup. As the truism goes, ‘Quantity has a quality all its own’ and a small military can only work (sporadically) when backed by the Nuclear hammer! Lacking that, we either resign to being merely one among many or spend a LOT MORE and TAX MORE!
