Venezuela arrests business owner because he somehow managed to acquire enough toilet paper to properly stock his employees’ bathrooms

According to this article from the Atlantic, in Venezuela, a labor union at a private business has a clause in its contract which says that the bathrooms must always have toilet paper. I agree with the union on this.

Since price controls caused a shortage of toilet paper, the only way the employer could get enough toilet paper was to illegally buy it on the black market for a price that was higher than the government controlled price.

Now the government is accusing the business owner of “hoarding,” and he could end up going to jail for it.

Interestingly, the article also says that the government might have seized his business if he had not properly stocked the employees’ bathrooms with toilet paper. Darned if you do, and darned if you don’t!

Ahhh, the joys of “democratic socialism”.

After all, the Venezuelan people voted for this crap.

It's not my place to run the train
The whistle I can't blow.

It's not my place to say how far
The train's allowed to go.

It's not my place to shoot off steam
Nor even clang the bell.

But let the damn thing jump the track
And see who catches hell.

Before clicking on this I thought that the full headline once revealed would be;

“Venezuela arrests business owner because he somehow managed to acquire enough toilet paper...to wipe once.”

You can bet that fat, mustachioed, big stump of a so-called leader Maduro is wiping his sorry butt in ample comfort. Isn’t Castroism wonderful? At least mother Cuba has terlet paper.

Wouldn’t it just have been cheaper to tape together Venezuelan Bolivars into a long roll?

Ahh, socialism, what Bernie wants for all of us.

In the old Soviet Union, potatoes were hard to come by but vodka was cheap and plentiful. Farmers often had a tough time getting pig feed, so would give their swine bread which was more plentiful.

Socialists think they are so damned smart about micromanaging an economy, but can't organize a two car parade.

“Does socialism wipe you out?”
“No, it can’t even do that.”

One of the reasons that Khrushchev got the boot was because there was actually a shortage of vodka in the Soviet Union.

The NY Slimes and the WaPo should be helping their Venezuela socialista gente’s by sending back copies of their rags to use as toilet paper. So what if the paper already has a bunch of black crap on it— plenty of room for more.

We should probably go the UN next time they have one of those rubber chicken dinners with the hookers and propose that Venezuela change its name to “Berniezuela”.

Which is the exact point of all these regulations socialist put on a populace. You can never follow the laws and can always at a whim be fined or put in jail and your property and businesses confiscated. It is all about control and people having to bow down to the rulers.

True. A very short-term incident which never happened again. Every General Secretary thereafter understood the necessity of keeping the masses supplied with cheap vodka.

Is there any aspect of life that large government actually improves ? Any ? And don’t tell me they build roads, cause they don’t. Private companies construct roads to government specifications, and these roads end up killing more citizens than government wars.

A country that can’t come up with toilet paper probably doesn’t need very much.
