SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A German shepherd fell out her owner's truck and stayed five weeks on the highway median near Sacramento for the owner to return.

Officers received calls every day about the animal, but they weren't able to find her for over a month.

Last Saturday, authorities were finally able catch the dog, who has since been nicknamed "Freeway Frida."

Likely tossed from a truck. A favorite way to dump a dog that is no longer wanted.

Five weeks——dreadful.

There is no hell hot enough for people that would do this to an animal.

I hate seeing strays. If you don’t want an animal, there is nothing with not having one. But don’t get one to get rid of it later.

I love animals, but I work too much to care for one properly.

When I was a youth, my dad would take in a stray dog, and later, drive to the other side of town and put the dog out.
They never did come back.

And a Shepard is one of the most devoted dogs around. I’m thinking of getting a Belgian Malinois which is a smaller version of a Shepard, very devoted.

If you live out in the country, seeing city people dump their pets in the middle of nowhere is not a rare sight.

People are cruel.A couple of years ago someone threw a cat out of their car at about 60 MPH.His shoulder was skinned down halfway to the bone.We were able to treat the wound and save him,now he sleeps in the house and spends his days lounging in the backyard.

We used to live out in the country a few miles from a small town. People in town would bring their unwanted dogs out and dump them. We always kept a dog that turned up at our door.

One day one of our dogs disappeared. I went to all of the houses out our way. Finally I showed a picture of our dog to one of our neighbors. He hung his head and looked very sheepish.

He admitted that she had wandered to his house and thinking someone had dumped her on him, he took her back to town and dumped her there.

I finally found her but she wouldn’t stay home and finally got killed on the road. Sad story.

Same thing happened to this guy.

Donovan recovered and found a good home with one of our volunteers. He is still alive.

Oooh! How much smaller? Indoor-only, small enough for lounging on the sofa together? I think German Shepherds are just freaking gorgeous and smarter than most of the people I work with on a daily basis. I want one. I just don’t think one would be a good fit with my current cast of elderly cats.

I made a promise to my adopted pets they wouldn’t have to worry, as I would be caring for them for the remainder of their days. So, I will have to admire from afar. Sigh.

Last summer an emaciated and nearly dead male great dane and who I assume was his pup, finally had to take a chance. They saw us, walked up my driveway and politely knocked on the door. I let them in and fed them, but they couldn’t eat solid food. I finally gave them a bowl of milk each to try to restart their GI tracts. They were so gentle. Really tragic.

I’ve seen it myself and when confronted the low lives give all kind of excuses.

“Five weeks——dreadful.

I agree. I love animals & have no tolerance for animal cruelty. My pets are my family.

The past few weeks I have been taking care of two adorable stray Blue Heeler puppies. Today, the Animal Shelter called & told us they found rescue homes for them. When I was surrendering them, I cried as if they were my own because I already loved them.

How anyone can abandon a pet is beyond me. Monsters.
