Trust but verify. Twice if you have to.
I don’t want burglars to be scared of me. I want them to be scared that they are going bleed out and die before the police and ambulance arrives to take them away.
Who is the manufacturer of the RG23?
Make sure it’s loaded. Make sure you’re ready to use it. (Then Hope for the best if you have to squeeze the trigger)
I have never met anyone who would volunteer to be shot with a .22LR.
a 22 will bounce around inside ya like a ping pong ball I’ve seen the results more than once
Rohm of Germany.
Thanks. Never heard of them.

Sounds like the ol’ ‘Saturday-night Special’, IIRC, gone many moons ago (talk about ‘poor/black hardest hit’ there).
A gun should never be used as a bluff. If you threaten to shoot, you should always be prepared to follow through. Because your enemy might very well be if you aren’t. If a mere show works, great. But if the challenge is met, pull the trigger!
“In the vast majority if cases, the person defending with a gun does not have to shoot, but they have to be ready and able to shoot. Bluffs can work, but they can also fail.”
Absolutely.
On the topic of “cheap” guns, I’d suggest a 12 gauge shotgun is the best value for most homeowners. Not only is it easier to aim and hit with than a pistol, it has more knockdown power and certainly wins in the intimidation department. Remember to use reduced recoil buckshot, preferably #4, to limit over penetration. The 12 gauge also has the virtue of being able to put food on the table if necessary.
I lean towards the Remington 870 myself, it’s a very flexible platform. Here’s one on Gunbroker that’ll likely go for less than $200:

A final note, if you want to spend a bit more for a well-suited tactical barrel, they’re pretty affordable, around $100:
Switching barrels on an 870 takes less than a minute, and no tools.
(I should note, neither of those is my auction, just searched for examples...)
Hence the term “double-tap”.
Keep them loaded, keep them handy and practice and drill.
In your opinion, is a tactical barrel worth the added expense?
What does it do exactly? Is it just shorter?
Pardon my ignorance; I am not a shotgun guy.
I want burglars to be afraid that my dogs will rip them apart, which they would do.If I get involved, they’re going to be shot dead-no waiting around for bleeding out.
nothing says “get the hell away from me” like racking a pump action shotgun, everyone recognizes that sound
I agree on the shot gun but use a 20ga instead, 2 barrel ithica. Only down side is I don’t have auto eject.
I give is, if you pull it be prepared to use it.
Frankly I don’t want to blow someone away over a simple burglary especially if they are running away but be carrying a weapon during said commission or pose any threat besides just being there, you will be history.
That comes with the drilling and practice.
