Venezuela's army is to be backed by civilians grouped into ancillary security units, to tackle food shortages and public unrest, under a state of emergency decree published on Monday.

The decree, published in the government gazette, brings into effect for at least 60 days sweeping powers President Nicolas Maduro announced on Friday.

The measures give his government and security forces broad authorization to ignore most constitutional safeguards in a bid to keep order and supply basic food and services, and to counter a crippling energy shortage....

Manuro taking orders from George Soros and David Rockefeller I’ll bet. Need gas back up to $5 per gallon in the US. How dare the peons think they can have cheap energy? Cheap energy doesn’t meet the IMF/World Bank goals of an enslaved planetary populace of around 600 million.

I was wondering how they were going to do it. Won’t work though. High prices mean more fracking and drilling.

Their idea of “motivation” is a firing squad. They wouldn’t accept a solution that increases prosperity under any conditions. Their sick minds can’t work that way. You could prove beyond doubt that high prosperity would guarantee them personal success and eternal gratitude from the populace. They still would opt for the supercontrol slave state. They are simply evil. No one need think further about it than that. The Bernies and Hillarys will always pick the destructive route.

I know people from Venezuela, including my son’s Spanish instructor last semester. They’re glad to be here!

Watch for a move by the Iranians. If not, Maduro’s on thin ice. Troops have to be fed and militarizing the broader populace is just shorthand for “over here, if you want to eat”.

This is going to devolve into a huge humanitarian crisis. Been a long time since we’ve seen it this bad in this hemisphere. Completely self-inflicted, too.

If the US had an actual leader right now, the relief operation here would be a dry run for building a regional coalition to deal with post-Castro Cuba. Make your mistakes in Vz, learn, be ready for opportunity.

That 90 day supply of petroleum the US stores is not for the little guys. We’ll be walking while the head leaders continue to ride in air conditioned limos.

We currently produce enough oil that it will have no affect on the US supply.

Market is glutted, that is why Venezuela is in this mess. That and the failed Socialist government.

BUI is only “better” insofar as it cuts out all the BS overhead red tape, insane regulations, and bizarre incentives - going straight to “fine, everyone is given a ‘welfare’ check for poverty-line income, live as you see fit”. If we’re _going_ to have a vast welfare state, that’s the sane way to do it.

Except it’s not sane, it just rejiggers the rules, gives people an easy reliance on the state, and frees up more people to spend more time (and money!) demanding their special cases be given even more $$$ for free.

In the end, “basic universal income” is NOT a “solution to poverty” precisely because it does NOT motivate people to produce more, it purports to meet their basic _consumptive_ needs - which a great many people will be quite satisfied with (even if they complain loudly about it) and thus be completely unmotivated to do more than the bare minimum to turn that free-money check into a tolerable living.

[sigh] I keep returning to assorted efforts I’ve made to help the poor - only to keep running into the exact reasons _WHY_ they’re poor, and grudgingly conclude that they’re living exactly the life they choose to. Kinda sucks to, for example, make a day’s meals for a needy family, only to find they’re living for free in a hotel room and lounging all day in their PJs watching TV while I’m expending my time/money/effort making their food from cheap staples and delivering it to them ... and they want a “guaranteed basic income”? how about me wanting “government get the he11 out of their way so they have no excuse to earn & make their own living”? [grunt]

Oh, yes. It is happening.

The public is preparing for a vote to remove the Leftist slime.

This will not end well. Blood will flow. Years of Socialist rule will come home to roost.

Holy crap. Praying for those trapped there.

Chavez ran on hope and change. Then he changed their Constitution so he wouldn’t leave. Until he died, and there’s Maduro now.

How to wreck a civilized country.

“The balloon is going up” is an old phrase meaning “things are getting really seriously bad now, this is the moment you’ve been waiting/fearing for, society is now collapsing, you’re on your own”.

That’s what Milton Freidman said too. Just cut everyone a check but get rid of the entire welfare, bureaucratic, and subsidies to poor people.
