Ever had a Boar Charge at you?

Though I wouldn't say they are exactly common, dealing with a boar charge is a distinct possibility any time you go into the woods in pursuit of hogs. The hunter in the video almost learned this lesson the hard (and painful way). Watch the video to see just how close that hunter was to being gored by that boar! See the video here.

Watch the dog. He’s not big but he doesn’t hesitate to take after that hog who’s over three times his size. Man, I love dogs.

As a matter of fact, I pissed off a 320 lb coworker named L. Biglow and she charged at me. Shook the floor so much that it knocked me out of my chair.

All I saw was flaming nostrils coming at me.

When I was younger, I hunted bear and hogs in East Tennessee...I ran a string of Plott Hounds...Those dogs were never more excited than when they had a boar or bear at bay...Their tails would be going 90 miles an hour wagging...

Hogs are very unpredictable...One hog that, today, would run from you, tomorrow, would charge you like the dickens....

My friend Marvin was in a ground blind deer hunting in the Brazos river bottom. He took a shot at a hog with his 06. That just pissed that Boar off, who started charging him. Marvin emptied his rifle at him, but he kept on coming.
He pulled out his Gold Cup and thankfully that ole Boar caught one in the brain. Marvin called for help to get ‘em outta the woods an into his pickup. I got called to bring over a chain fall to get em outta the truck. I don’t know how much he weighed. But just the hide and gristle plate weighed 180 lbs.

Never did. But I knew a guy who had hunted them in the Okeefenokee Swamp. He said that even if you're not very nimble or athletic, if you hear a boar chopping his jaws and charging in your direction, you can go up the nearest tree as though it was a set of stairs! And I believe him. 😊

Not a boar but a mother with piglets. I just made it over the fence. There’s nothing like having a six hundred pound sow charge you to make you into a world class sprinter.

Ahhh! Reminds me of hunting javelina in south Texas with a Ruger .41 magnum. All white brush in that country and shots were close range. Favorite load was wad cutter lead mounted backward in casing. Stopping power was tremendous!

My BIL told me how hard they are to kill, that he once shot one in the head with a 12-gauge slug and it ricocheted. I didn't believe it myself until I shot one behind the ear, expecting it to drop but it just bolted into the underbrush. There's no way I missed. It just absorbed the shot but probably died shortly thereafter.

I have since educated myself on proper hog shot placement - in the neck along a line between the ear a upper shoulder.

I'll be using an M1A with a Glock 21 backup, and Buck 119 and Cold Steel Gladius as a desperate last ditch defense.

What is a Gold Cup?

In 1957 Colt began to produce “Gold Cup National Match” pistols which they produced until 1970. In 100% condition, these pistols are worth about $1000. There was then a “Series 70 Gold Cup National Match, produced between 1970 and 1983. These bring $950 or better in 100% condition. Between 1983 and 1996, Colt produced the “Gold Cup MKIV Series 80 National Match.” The are worth about $800 in 100% condition. The current marking is “Gold Cup Trophy” begun in 1997.

Here in populated areas of California, many boar hunters can only use a bow.

One of the best bow hunters in the area was knocked on his butt by a charging boar and lost all but one arrow from his quiver. He got one shot off when the boar made a second charge to finish him off, and hit him in the chest. The boar died a few inches from where he was kneeling.

Guy had nightmares for months.

An ole friend used to go on guided day hog hunts outta Hondo. The guide was on horseback. The hunters on foot. A boar came out of nowhere, disemboweled that poor horse, dropping him right out from under the guide.

Yep. The worst are momma sows with young ones to protect. They are almost always quiet and close by when they decide to charge. And when they do, they mean it!

So, that’s a 1911 style semi-auto single-action-only handgun, likely firing .45 acp ammo. See http://www.colt.com/Catalog/Pistols/Gold-Cup-Series.

1911 and .45 acp owners are famous for believing it’s THE wonder gun and THE wonder caliber and together can stop anything, except perhaps time.

Just sayin’.

That's just what Marvin carried.

Myself, when hunting, I carry the Ruger Blackhawk in 45LC with the 4-5/8in bbl.

I don't load it krazy hot like I used to do. Where writing on the case heads was beginning to be obliterated.

I've toned it down in my old age n all.
