Listen: Exclusive: 'Get Over' it? Cruz Responds to Kasich on Religious Liberty
Conservative Review ^ | 04/18/16 | Nate Madden

Despite suggestions to the contrary, Americans are not willing to “get over” attacks to their religious liberty, Texas Senator and Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said in an interview with CR.

“I don’t think the American people are willing to get over our basic liberties. We fought a bloody revolution to protect our religious liberty,” Cruz explained. “This nation was founded by men and women fleeing religious oppression, and seeking a land where every one of us could seek out and worship God almighty with all of our hearts, minds and souls, free of the government getting in the way.”

The statement was in response to comments made yesterday by Ohio Governor and fellow Republican candidate John Kasich said that people who favor state-level legislation similar to the federal 1993 Religious Freedom Restoration Act should stop trying to allow people to abstain from activities contradictory to their faith.

A war was fought to establish religious freedom, not what seems to be the aims of ‘religious liberty,’ which is ill-defined.

It’s okay for liberals to not be forced to participate in any event they hold to be morally wrong. But for some reason that right doesn’t extend to Christians.

Cruz is a opportunist. He sided with black lives matters and other thugs against trump in Chicago because he thought he’d win and look good. Ha! Now he thinks he can yell at Kasick and win New York. Cruz is delusional. Cruz can’t just now pretend he’s for religious rights when he did nothing in the senate to protect them.

“..Cruz explained. “This nation was founded by men and women fleeing religious oppression, and seeking a land where every one of us could seek out and worship God almighty with all of our hearts, minds and souls, free of the government getting in the way.”’

This is about what I told my family.

Religious liberty is the REASON our Founders excaped to America. Kasich is a fool.

TED CRUZ has ALREADY fought for and WON our religious freedom rights.

“Cruz is no stranger to the nation’s highest court. As the solicitor general of Texas, he found himself arguing some of the most consequential cases of the last decade. On his Senate webpage, he lists six cases that established “landmark national victories”:

U.S. sovereignty against the United Nations and the World Court in Medellin v. Texas;

The Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms;

The constitutionality of the Texas Ten Commandments monument;

The constitutionality of the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance;

The constitutionality of the Texas Sexually Violent Predator Civil Commitment law; and

The Texas congressional redistricting plan.

Cruz has filed more than 80 briefs in Supreme Court cases, including one defending Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties. Sens. John Cornyn (R–Texas), Mike Lee (R –Utah) and David Vitter (R–La.), also signed that amicus brief.

But how could this be? Could it be because he is a Constitutional Conservative? I think it is.

I think you’re right. :)

I was so happy to hear on CBS nightly news, the newest poll showing Kasich LAST in NY primary race.

Perhaps NY GOP primary voters are doing some last minute research.

Man, I am so tired of having to correct this repeated lie.

But the lies never end. Even when they are exposed as lies, some people just keep repeating them anyway. it is so like a liberal. it is not the accuracy of the accusation, just the seriousness of it.

Cruz specifically and explicitly denounced BLM.

Every time he, I, or anyone else has a criticism of Trump, certain people on this forum practically have an aneurysm over it. Doesn’t matter if the criticism is true.

Ted Cruz DID NOT support Black Lives Matter in Chicago. He criticized Trump. He also pointed out BLM is wrong, along with the other protestors.

Contrary to your lies about Cruz, here are the things he has said about BLM:

“If you look at the Black Lives Matter movement, one of the most disturbing things is more than one of their protests have embraced rabid rhetoric, rabid anti-police language, literally suggesting and embracing and celebrating the murder of police officers. That is disgraceful.”

http://www.allenbwest.com/michellejesse/ted-cruz-makes-bold-statement-about-black-lives-matter-liberals-outraged

“The responsibility of that lies with the protestors who took violence into their own hands.” (Speaking about the BLM and other protestors at Trump’s rallies.)

More here about what Cruz really said:

AND I already corrected YOU here

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3420260/posts?page=64#64

But that does not stop YOU from repeating your filthy, nasty, disgusting LIES.

STOP being a phony, lying liberal. Or go post your tripe on DU where it belongs. Because over there you are welcome to promote killing babies and selling their body parts. And they hate Cruz almost as much as you and your ilk do.

For the record (i.e not for LIARS, but for the honest people on the forum), I am fully supportive of Trump being president. What I do not support is the non-stop, nasty, Goebbels’ style lies spread around here about Cruz for the last 6 months.

“But how could this be? Could it be because he is a Constitutional Conservative? I think it is.”
_________
I don’t give Cruz as much credit for the cases he handled as Texas Solicitor General as some people do, simply because those were cases he was obligated to handle as part of the sworn duties of his post, and because they were the positions of the Governor and Legislature. They don’t necessarily say anything about Cruz’s own positions on the issues raised in those matters. (Remember Ted Olson, arguing for gay marriage after taking conservative positions for the federal government when he was Solicitor General?)

Now, I DO give Cruz great credit for a case he didn’t HAVE to take, one he handled pro bono while in private practice. The case was one where Cruz and some other attorneys represented a Veteran’s group trying to keep a cross erected on public land, and the lefties were, as usual, going after them. That was a case Cruz didn’t have to take, and wasn’t paid to take.

I am a Trump supporter, but I will give Cruz his due on religious freedom issues, and for his undoubted skill as a lawyer.
