Sport Chalet announced on Saturday that it is closing all of its stores and has stopped selling goods online.

"While our online store is no longer available, all Sport Chalet stores will remain open for several weeks, offering customers the opportunity to use their remaining rewards and gift cards, and to take advantage of great sales," the chain says on its website.

Michelle De Leon, a department head at the Sport Chalet in Lake Forest, said employees found out about the store closure through their general managers on Thursday.

Never heard of them.

Probably why they went belly up.

I never heard of them. Probably why they are closing. No loss. I do my sport shopping at Dick’s sporting goods. They always are crowded.

Tough times in retailing.

It’s just anecdotal evidence, but at a few malls in my area, there are more than a few vacant storefronts.

I know Obama and his boys tell us unemployment is under 5%, things are great, and all that. But I get the feeling something else is going on.

And I’m not wanting to just bash Obama and his economic policies. There could be other factors, such as more people doing more online shopping, which is causing brick and mortar stores to close.

And I hate to say, but some malls draw a less than respectable clientele, shall we say, which in turn scares off legitimate customers.

Very friendly and knowledgeable employees. They carry everything from team sports to camping, fishing and mountaineering.

They have better prices than most and much better selection than Sports Authority.

They will be missed by many.

I’m not sure about sporting goods, but I’m certain that online shopping is doing a real number on retail stores. I’m one of those women who loved shopping and going in all the stores just to look; but now I almost never go into a department store or a mall. It’s just too much walking, for one thing; and places like Amazon make shopping online so easy.

I will go to a department store to buy shoes, now; that’s about it.

In regards to this and Sports Authority...

You have no idea just how big, I mean.. like Home Depot, Lowes and specialty big box big... Dick’s Sporting Goods is truly getting.

I’m not surprised by them burying regional competition. If you’ve been in one of their new stores you know they’re the real deal.

Sport Chalet has stores located in CA, NV, Az, and UT. Had reasonable prices and good customer service. Most known for diving and ski gear.

Dick’s Sporting Goods in southern CA doesn’t sell guns or ammunition so I do not shop there.

“I do my sport shopping at Dick’s sporting goods. They always are crowded.”

I refuse to shop there after they bent over for Obama and stopped selling hand guns. It is an appropriately named store.

Yep - they were great and will be sadly missed. We went into the one at the South Coast Plaza tonight. It was packed with people taking advantage of their closing sale. Been into their stores many times in my life and this was a sad day.

Rather sudden, indeed. Some employees found out last night. The rest found out this morning.

Last time I went to the mall in a nice suburb of Portland, OR I saw wayy too many “refugees” and some of them just seemed to have a predatory demeanor. Very disgusting what they've done to us.

They had great sidewalk sales. Sad to see them go.

I was going to go to the Park Place store on Michelson and Jamboree in Irvine (down the 405 freeway three miles). You may have deterred me. Hard to get parking spots there even when they are not busy.

Having two large stores that close to each other was a dumb idea.
