You killed a fox from 50 feet away by throwing an aluminum baseball bat at it?

Dude, that is awesome. I am impressed!

I just shake my head as many have no idea what it is to take a life.

And I shake my head at some who overstate what it is to take a life. Hollywood loves to make sure that the shooter pukes right afterward. There are those who wouldn't bat an eyelash.

I’m a fairly ethical (or at least legalistic) and self-disciplined. I’ve managed to avoid felonies, misdemeanors and even traffic tickets.

Ditto. My future ex-wife asked me once how I can be so calm in crisis situations. I told her that panic is a killer. I don’t kill spiders in the house either. I’ll also only kill animals if they are a threat or if I plan on eating them.

That would be me as well. I hope I never have to face that situation but I do know the one time I saw some real violence I froze. It was a nightclub fight that had somehow drifted into the street and there was a good number of people witnessing it. No one stepped into it to stop it. I’m not sure that is analogous to when your own life is threatened but I do know I was among the crowd in freezing and being helpless.

In a fast paced situation such as combat the realization of what you’ve done often comes later after it is over. When the calm returns the thoughts come in like a flood. I’m very thankful for military chaplains. I pray that we never do away with them.

I’m at peace with myself and am confident I’ll be fine when it comes to a final judgment.

It was like 3 days after 25 chickens were surplus-killed and left to rot by the fox. I see him merrily cavoring across the SW near the stream, so I get between him and the woods. He runs along the stream and then gets confused by a 50' stand alone section of wire fencing that I had not moved yet. I doubled back to the house and grabbed the bat. My then 8 yr old son followed me at a distance, curious as to why I grabbed a bat and was running.

The fox kept maneuvering to try & get to the woods, but I kept getting in between. Eventually he did a sort of a "hook" end run around me and saw my son and stopped. The fox looked at him, my son looked at him, they both looked at me, everyone looked at everyone. Then the fox bolted for the woods, and I threw the bat at him just as he started to disappear into a brush mix of wild raspberries & weeds. I ran up and found the fox laying on top the aluminum bat.

This president is really only concerned with overthrowing ONE nation.

Consider Yeats: Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity... When people like Obama and Merkel cause everything else to fall apart, the US cannot hold.

I have killed thousands of animals. I worked at a butcher shop my youth and killed hogs and cattle. I euthanize dogs and cats daily. I’ve had to kill many horses. I’ve worked animal shelters where I had to kill hundreds of dogs in a few hours. Sometimes I kill so many I just get numb. Some of these people out there wouldn’t affect me one iota to have to kill them too.

I have read many times that the universal response to killing a human for the first time is to get nauseated and vomit. Apparently it is common in battle.

Yeah, but everyone after the first is free. Esp. when they are death cult members.

You won't lose any sleep over the bodies stacked on top. Its the ones on the bottom that you remember.

Until a few years ago, I used to be afraid of heights, to the point of not wanting to go much higher than maybe 10 feet on a ladder. Other obvious exceptions to fear of heights are air travel and I did do parasailing to about 100 feet high once, from a platform in the ocean.

Then last month I did tandem skydiving for the first time. The thing I told myself when it was getting close to the time for going out the door, was something from Dune: "Fear is the Mind-Killer". It worked.

So I'm not subject to panic or hesitation. I have no doubt, if push came shove and I had to make someone eat a few rounds in order to protect my family (or food supply in SHTF), I would do so without hesitating and would do so pretty clinically.

“The only problem is,how many preppers are psychologically prepared to kill another human being.”

Excellent point, but not an issue that hasn’t been analyzed intensively. Militaries have had to deal with it for ages. They must have developed techniques to try and prepare soldiers to kill. I say “try” because I doubt that every person can be prepared.

Any military people on thread who can comment?

For those that do have an idea, there was a time they also didn't. There's a first time for everything. I hope I don't have to, but I'm fairly certain I won't hesitate.

That's a pretty heavy statement. Not a pun.

That’s a great story, and excellent battlefield maneuvers on your part, BTW.

A friend of mine has some really nice rifles and a big pile of magazines. But no LBE, pouches for them, or a hydration bladder.

He was embarrassed when I pointed it out to him.

Having custody of a loaded weapon does not arm you. The skill to use the weapon is what arms a man.
