Okay people. You all know that this year is the 100th anniversary of the Cubs' first season in Wrigley Field. You also know that as of last year the national version of WGN no longer carries Cubs games. The Chicago station does, but the "superstation" apparently makes more money showing episode after episode after episode of a show called "Bluebloods" (which I know absolutely nothing about) than it does showing the Cubbies.

So I looked up the radio station that currently carries the games and found it online. Well guess what? At game time I get the very beginning but then it gets cut off for some sports talk show!

Now this doesn't make one bit of sense. I can see that on TV some games would be blacked out. But this is AM RADIO! How in the world does one block that??? I mean, it comes over the air, and anyone who lives close enough to pick up the station can hear it for nothing!

So why in blazes do they get off blocking the exact same program on the exact same station when you tune in online instead of with a radio set? What's the difference? Why block out an AM radio station??? Don't the same commercials air online as over the air? I just don't see the reasoning behind this!!!

PS: I've found a downloadable program online that is claimed to allow a person to watch any game at any time online for FREE. I haven't downloaded it yet because it sounds too good to be true. Anyone out there know anything about it?

I pay the twenty bucks and get mlb.com gameday so I can listen to the Cubs online anywhere. You can also listen to Amy other game you want. It’s well worth it.

MLB controls the rights to the games. The online stream of the station won’t have the game on. I think the same thing happens with football. For $20 and the MLB at Bat app you can get all the baseball games you want streamed with the radio telecast. I subscribe to the MLB.tv also, and can watch any baseball game I want (except the National games on ESPN or Fox). Luckily I don’t get locally blacked out either.

I thought WGN promoted Cubs games before because the parent company used to own the franchise. (? I may be wrong.) Now that they sold the Cubs, they don’t need to shoulder the revenue loss.

Too bad, I don’t watch any other products WGN sells ......

Broadcast rights. Because the MLB sells primarily local broadcast contracts there’s a lot of issue with geography, issues that didn’t used to matter but in this modern age where nothing is ever truly local it does. Either you’re living someplace where you’re “covered” by somebody’s contract, or WGN and your radio station just don’t want to screw with it and block the games from anything outside their contracted “circle”.

I had decided to drop MLB when Interleague Play was introduced. At the end of the season, my Dodgers made the playoffs, so I thought I'd give MLB one more try. Blackelk and I went to Bobby Valentine's with its dozen C-Band Dishes, to watch the PLAYOFF game that wasn't on regular cable. A dozen big screens surrounded the bar. There were Yankees. And Red Sox. And hockey. And soccer. And tennis. Where are the Dodgers?

Major League Baseball blacked out the SATELLITE DISHES! MLB determined that I was supposed to be a local fan.

It would be a tough call if I had to choose between pledging allegiance to the Communist Party or the American League. If they won't let me be a Dodger fan, they must not want me to be a fan at all.
