California officials say the state overpaid at least $700,000 to state employees last month and the government is working to get the money back.
The Sacramento Bee reports about 20,000 state employees got too much money in their paycheck -- ranging from $37 to $101 per employee.
State Controller's Office spokesman John Hill says the mistake was limited to workers covered by two unions, including 12,689 employees in the California Correctional Peace Officers Association and "about 7,000" workers in the International Union of Operating Engineers Bargaining Unit 12. ...

California will spend probably $10,000,000 to finally recover $637.42. Government functioning at its highest level. But then the counter law suits will begin and the cost to California will rise exponentially. Many lawyers will begin and end their very well paid careers working on this Government screw up.
I’m willing to bet they don’t try half as hard as they did trying to collect what they felt was an overpayment to me when I was on disability.
A drop in the bucket compared to what they waste every day keeping most of these parasites employed.

Simple answer is to just take it out of their next paycheck. Isn’t that what they’d do with anyone else? Are these people special or something?

A Scotsman opens his paycheck and sees that it is short by $10. So he goes over to the payroll department, and complains about it.
Says the paymaster: "Last week we overpaid you by $10. You weren't in here complaining then."

The way government works, they will spend $2-million to get back the $700,000 so they can waste it somewhere else. Here in California most likely to buy diapers and formula for illegals anchor babies.
