They pretty much already did, what with the NFA (1934), amended by the GOPA (1986).

Just for the record, I consider the term “assault weapon” to be completely meaningless. If a hammer is used to commit vioience, it is an assault weapon.

There is such a thing as an “assault rifle,” and its definition includes full-auto capability. As we all know, fully automatic firearms are heavily regulated and very expensive.

What does this say about disarmist online poll results?

The poll only allows one vote per device, so multiple votes per person are cut way down.

It is a little finicky to get at, so that would discourage casual disarmist or paid trolls.

Maybe those are the reasons that Second Amendment supporters outnumber disarmists on this poll by 25 to one.
