Samuel Baker hunted elephants in the 1800’s with a 2 bore. Frederick Sealous of Rhodesia used a 4 bore to take 78 elephants, but the gun occasionally doubled and he stopped using it due to wear and tear on his nerves.
Thought anything bigger than .50 was considered a destructive device, i.e., artillery.
This...THIS is why we can’t have nice things...
I want to see it in a snubnose lightweight pistol. The gangbangers will snap them up and kill themselves and their ‘posse’ when holding it sideways, they fire and it takes themselves and half the crew out... while totally missing the target. Win/Win.
Actually it looks like just about the right caliber for using on members of ISIS, hit them in the head with this and you probably behead that at the same time, saves getting your knife mesy.
I saw one many moons back titled “Ahmed vs. the T-Rex” like these, we LOAO at it. Always a good time!
As I said six days ago in the SHTF Rifle Caliber thread my go to round is the 577 Tyrannosaur.
I want to be ready for the Thunder Lizard invasion.
Did you flip over Guam?
I would rather have a properly set up 50bmg, then you have a tool, the .577 is just ego from a bygone era.
If i was in the 30’s and a big game hunter i would have built a rifle off the 50bmg though back then as it was an anti aircraft round. Even light tank.
Without some major recoil mitigation the shooter is in real danger of detached retinas.
20mm Rifle
Now THATS a rifle!
From left to right: .223, .338 lapua, 50BMG, 20MM Vulcan
Montana Armor approved? From Thunderboot and Lightfoot.
My buddy got an AR-10 in .50BMG. It has NO recoil at all. He took the first shot and this 245 lb fellow was afraid of the damage to his shoulder this beast would do. So he fired from a bench and the gun moved about an inch! It never touched his shoulder at all. Now that’s recoil mitigation for you.
This ammunition/rifle is specially designed for professional guides to use as a “stopping rifle”. IOW, when the amateur screws up and only wounds and pisses off the dangerous game, the professional guide uses something like this in a last ditch effort to stop a dangerous and wounded animal. Not really intended for anything but the most skilled users in the most extreme cases.
