SANTA ANA – The former Taco Bell Corp. manager accused of assaulting an Uber driver in Costa Mesa was charged in court on Tuesday.

Benjamin Golden, 32, of Newport Beach is facing four misdemeanor counts including assault on public transportation property, battery on a public transit employee with injury, assault and battery, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

The charges stem from Friday’s incident caught on a car dashboard camera where he was seen in an intoxicated state slapping and hitting the 23-year-old driver. He was arrested by Costa Mesa police and released the next morning.

From what I can deduce from earlier stories, the driver picked up the drunk at Triangle Square in Costa Mesa and drove across the street, where he was assaulted.

What I can't figure out is why the Uber driver did not already know the destination, you would have the give that on the app.

Passengers can and do change their destinations, Uber drivers have to change it before departing as well as secure approval from the passenger for the change (and the charge to destination.)

Slightly misleading title, it makes it sound like he was a manager of a Taco Bell. He was in charge of Taco Bell’s social networking outreach as well as related technology communication. IE: He was the guy in charge when you complain on Twitter.

I hope that he’s unmarried and has no family to support with his idiotic actions.

From what I understand, the Uber driver asked for directions to help in finding the final destination. That is when he realized the passenger was way to drunk to be in his vehicle and decided to put him out.

Maybe the Uber driver was trying to buy time/think what to do with this obviously VERY intoxicated idiot he’d just picked up.

Sick and sad what the country has lowered itself to. This sicko should go to jail for more than a year, for that. At least he got fired.

The driver could have shot him instead. And the headline would have been: “Handgun kills passenger”.

I heard audio. uber driver never got destination. He asks guy, he’s too drunk to say. Driver tells him ride is over. Guy babbled some name over and over while driver tells him to leave. More talk. Taco bell marketing executive manager attacks driver. Fight. “Call police” more fight.

I can’t believe that Uber doesn’t ask where they are going before giving the information to the driver. I have been supporting Uber but this really makes you want to know what they are thinking.

The segment of that video where the drunk guy nods off and flops to and fro in the back seat with each turn of the wheel is pure comedy gold.

“I can’t believe that Uber doesn’t ask where they are going before giving the information to the driver.”

You are supposed to give the destination on the app as the driver has the option of picking up the ride or not. You can change but I think you have to change it on the app since the charges are made there and no cash is taken on the ride.

I know persons on the inside of TB in Irvine (near the Spectrum) and asked about the perp.

Here's a reply:

But I think he's best known for performing at the Halloween party. He danced to Beyonce at our party on Friday. Like in heels and a leotard... Guess he didn't stop partying after that..

...Uber driver...

Please explain this phrase. It doesn't match my understanding of "uber".

You don’t know what Uber is?

Easily beats taking a taxi at a higher cost.

Premature reply launch. The link you provided didn’t add a shred of information. Perhaps you could condescend even more and just reply to my original question with an answer.

A-hole, perhaps if you looked at the article it gave what Uber is and how it works. But I will copy part of the article for you.

The Uber app software requires a smartphone.

Uber’s pricing is similar to that of metered taxis, although all hiring and payment is handled exclusively through Uber and not with the driver personally. In some cities, if the Uber car is travelling at a speed greater than 11 mph (18 km/h), the price is calculated on a distance basis, otherwise, the price is calculated on a time basis.[61] At the end of a ride, the complete fare is automatically billed to the customer’s credit card.[62] Uber has said its prices are the premium that the customers pay for a cab service that is not only reliable, but also punctual and comfortable

Thank you.

...perhaps if you looked at the article it gave what Uber...

The synopsis related only to the attack, which was the primary thrust of the thread. So, it is true, I didn't read the article because such articles, in my experience, seldom describe items of popular culture. That shouldn't turn you into an ass.
