What else but White guilt, “We’ll show you we’re not bigots!” explains Carson poll numbers?

Simple analysis shows Ben Carson’s support is driven by the White guilt, “We’ll show you we’re not bigots!” crowd.

Carson is a nice and decent human being. He has a soothing way of speaking and makes most of his points when he stays within is narrow field of knowledge. He is Black and a conservative Republican. All of these qualities make him an attractive candidate for a certain segment of the Republican rank and file: The White guilt crowd.

Supporting Carson gives them the chance to congratulate themselves and proclaim, “I am not a bigot. I oppose Barack Obama not because he is Black, but because he is a dangerous Marxist/Socialist.”

While this may sound harsh it is quite supportable.

The latest Gallup survey on which issues are most important to voters finds 33% said the economy.

The latest Rasmussen Report shows 56% of likely Republican primary voters expect Donald Trump to be their eventual nominee.

Without offering a list of names to choose from, a Harris poll found 47% of Republicans think Trump is the best candidate to create jobs. Just 3% say the same about Carson!

What else, but White guilt, “We’ll show you we’re not bigots!” explains 33% saying the economy is their top issue and only 3% saying Carson is the man to fix it translating into 20 – 27% support for him?

A new survey from Arizona shows Trump actually trailing Carson by...

How about: we appreciate his character, values, and leadership ability? And maybe we’re living MLK’s dream.

I think that’s part of it, but it’s also the evangelicals. Same people who love Huckabee, even though he’s a crypto-lib.

I think there is a lot of Bradley effect going on. Carson is just such a poor candidate on the issues.

If Carson were white, there’s no way anyone would be taking him seriously

Oh FFS.

1) There were a lot of clowns who said this about Obama. Guess who won the last two elections?

2) Carson is obviously a brilliant guy, very devout in his Christian faith, soft-spoken yet very clear, and appreciates his country.

3) Only FReepers seem to know much about his past opinions and how it doesn’t square with what he appears to be espousing on the campaign trail. Frankly, the same can be said of Trump, so Trump supporters don’t have a leg to stand on there, and they know it.

I have no intention of voting for Carson, but we could do a hell of a lot worse (see current WH occupant). To make this a purely racial thing is absurd and a waste of energy and brain cells.

Trump supporters hang up on pollsters, and some of Cruz’s do too.

No, I don’t think it has anything to do with ‘white guilt.’ There just appears to be, out of the huge well of anti-establishment sentiment, a lot of people who find Trump a bit too abrasive for their tastes. In addition to perhaps being questionable on values/social issues.

I’m rather glad to see Carson the beneficiary of this, as opposed to Huckabee. Cruz might have been (and probably should have been), but I’m guessing he stubbed his toe at the starting gate on a few issues like expanding H-1B, the Corker bill, and Obamatrade, deflating some enthusiasm for him at a crucial moment.

I think a lot of it is also the “NPR effect”. They associate anyone who talks in a low, thoughtful manner as smart. Therefore they think by association, they look smarter.

It real simple.

GOP voters hate the DC Establishment. They have been continually betrayed by their Party Leaders. So they are looking for someone to go clean out the DC stables. These same people are not comfortable with Trumps bombast and loose cannon behavior. Carson is anti Establishment without all of Trumps baggage.

Trump gets away from this loose cannon ways and hammers his economic message harder and harder, and he can win over those Carson voters to him.

What he cannot do is talk about Bush and 09-11 like a Democrat and expect the same people who elected Bush 2xs to look with favor on his candidacy

I agree. And so I wonder...does the author really believe what he's saying here, or does he have an agenda of some sorts?

At any rate, I only know of one of my friends who is supporting Carson. But she is doing so because she sees Carson as a quiet, thoughtful outsider, sort of a toned-down Trump.
