Some years ago, I was in the office of a straitlaced, middle-aged lady who was in charge of my law firms support staff. I noticed a photograph on her desk of herself with a long-haired guy who looked like a rock musician. It seemed incongruous, so I asked about the picture, and she told me this story.

tl;dr: Roger Waters criticized Bon Jovi for a planned concert in Israel. Bon Jovi went anyway and John explicitly stated his admiration for Israel during the concert.
Churchill understood that without a homeland of their own, the Jewish people would never have peace. He also understood that promised a homeland of their own that the Jewish people would serve as a throttle to Arab aggression upon Britain’s departure from Egypt and region. Like Churchill and the rest of the folks in the British govt, Churchill was a died in the wool colonialist, he was just more prescient than the rest, who were indeed largely antisemitic. Churchill definitely was a supporter of the British Empire and didn’t want to see it dissolved. But he did back full rights for the citizens of those countries. He wasn’t right on everything, but he was right on most things. He also backed home rule for Ireland.
