If this weren't a billionaire who peddles expensive cars that, even when subsidized, few people can afford--- I would take his violin music concern with minuscule C02 emissions much more seriously, specially since the energy his cars use simply produce the pollution elsewhere.

The scam is a pyramid of fraud, enabled by bureaucrats and criminal (really ignorant elected morons) who declared arbitrarily and capriciously that an essential basic gas of earth's biological cycle was a "harmful gas." I am waiting for them to do the same for oxygen, which can easily be similarly condemned. It is a freaking oxidizer, a culprit with an endless role of harmful gases, liquids and solids.
The possibilities for opportunist scam artists is much greater, as are the number of taxes that can be imposed to "mitigate" its damage.

You are quoting sources that are wrong and many of them copy the same mistakes from each other. When a customer gets a subsidy for buying a car that doesn’t translate into billions for Musk. When Musk sells launch services to the government by contract, that’s not a subsidy for Musk, either.
Almost all the capital that has gone into Tesla and SpaceX has come from investors, Musk being one of them, using the proceeds he made from the sale of Paypal.
Musk has already driven down the cost for launch services and plans to drive them down even more. Not by a little, but by a lot. We never see such results from those who get rich on subsidies. He plans on making electric cars economically viable without subsidies. Something which I didn’t think could be done anytime soon. It remains to be seen whether he can do it, but I hope he succeeds.
