Since this young man was using a Radio Shack 1970’s clock kit, shouldn’t they be getting an award as well? Even I could have put that thing together.

It wasn't even a clock kit. It was a store bought clock. He didn't put it together, he just took it out of its case and put it into a pencil box.

It wasn’t a clock kit. There were no surface mounted chips in the 1970’s. Hell, 7400 logic was new! In fact I wrote a paper on 7 segment light emitting diodes. That formed the numbers on the new digital clocks. I had to prove by drawing a schematic for my Physical Science teacher that I had not plagiarized the paper from an article in a magazine.
