Russian marines join Hizballah in first Syrian battle – a danger signal for US, Israel Capture

Before dawn on Thursday, Sept. 24, Russian marines went into battle for the first time since their deployment to Syria, DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources reveal. Russian Marine Brigade 810 fought with Syrian army and Hizballah special forces in an attack on ISIS forces at the Kweiris airbase, east of Aleppo.

This operation runs contrary to the assurances of President Vladimir Putin to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Sept. 21 – just three days ago – that Russian forces in Syria were only there to defend Russian interests and would not engaged in combat with the Syrian army, Hizballah or Iranian troops.

The ISIS force defending the air base is dominated by Chechen fighters under the command of Abu Omar al-Shishani, who is considered one of the terrorist organization’s leading commanders in the last two years. The 27-year-old al-Shishani hails from the Chechen enclave of Pankisi in Georgia, like many others who joined ISIS from 2012.

However, targeting Chechen fighters was not the only reason for the order given by Russian command in Syria to attack the air base.  In DEBKA Weekly 678 of September 11, we predicted that the first Russian mission in Syria would be to break the Syrian rebel siege on Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city.

As their first step, the Russians would have to prevent the cutoff of highway 5, running from Aleppo to Damascus, and keep it open for Syrian army reinforcements and military equipment to the city.

This dangerous development is likely further proof of Putin and Obama's collaborative plan for Israel and the middle east. Stay tuned for more ME havoc resulting from Monday's meeting.

Who are they fighting? If it’s ISIS, then thats good. When Stalin was allied with US to fight Nazis, was that bad in your opinion?

Good for the Russkies, wait till the body bags go back to Russia. The Russian people will get fed up and pull out just as they did in Afghanistan. The lessons of Viet Nam go unrecognized.

This is what leading from behind looks like. Frankly, if the west is not going to stand up to isis, I’m glad the Russians are willing.

QUICK WATCH | 00:43

Before dawn on Thursday, Sept. 24, Russian marines went into battle for the first time since their deployment to Syria, debkafile’s military and intelligence sources reveal. Russian Marine Brigade 810 fought with Syrian army and Hizballah special forces in an attack on ISIS forces at the Kweiris airbase, east of Aleppo.
This operation runs contrary to the assurances of President Vladimir Putin to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Sept. 21 – just three days ago - that Russian forces in Syria were only there to defend Russian interests and would not engaged in combat with the Syrian army, Hizballah or Iranian troops.

The offensive to regain Kweiris airbase that fell to ISIS in mid-June is the first step in the implementation of Russia’s operational plan for the Aleppo area.

Meanwhile, little substance was to be found in the reports appearing, mainly in the United States, suggesting that Putin, disappointed by the Obama administration’s unwillingness to send the US Air Force to collaborate with Russia in the fight against ISIS, would try to talk Obama round if and when they meet on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on September 28.

According to debkafile’s sources, these reports were spread to cover up the serious crisis in the US war against ISIS.
While Russia poured troops and advanced hardware into Syria, establishing bases and launching offensive action, the US anti-Islamic State effort suffered a heavy blow with the decision of Obama’s ISIS war czar, Gen. John Allen, to step down in early November.
Sources close to the general were quoted as referring to his frustration “with the White House micromanagement of the war and its failure to provide adequate resources.”’

The fact that the Russian forces launched their attack on ISIS shortly after the announcement of Allen’s upcoming resignation shows that Putin is not waiting for US cooperation in the war on the Islamist terrorists.    That said, debkafile’s military sources point out that the most ominous aspect for the US and Israel of the Russian attack on the Syrian airbase is that Russian marines were combined with Syrian and Hizballah special forces.
For the first time in 41 years, since the 1974 war of attrition against the IDF on the Golan, Russian troops are fighting alongside Syrian forces. It is also the first time that a world power like Russia is willing to go into battle with an acknowledged terrorist group, such as Hizballah.
Our sources point out that the joint attack was completely counter to the tone and the content of the comments exchanged by Putin and Netanyahu at their summit.
A full report on Russian military activity and strategic objectives in Syria, and a rundown of the content of the Putin-Netanyahu talks in Moscow appear in the coming issue of DEBKA Weekly out Friday, September 25.

This plays right into end times Ezekiel 37-38 prophecy Gog Russia and Persia Iran alliance to eventually attack Israel_ Armageddon. ISIS will be defeated but something else will be ‘the hook in the jaw’ that brings Russia into the attack on Israel. We are witnessing Bible prophecy shape up before our eyes.

I understand your point, ie: the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
However, there’s more than meets the eye here.
We planned, created, funded, and armed IS / ISIS / Daesh, to cause creative destruction.
We have have direct blood on our hands for thousands of innocent christians, moderate Muslims, and the Massive exodus of Millions fleeing into europe.
Syria is Russia ‘s political allie.
Why did we do such a provocative act, knowing the danger of trusting anyone in Al-Queda?
Why did Russia allow it?
Was the end game a plan to give Russia a Syrian naval base?
Did Obola and Val Jar do this to instigate Russia taking a more dominant role in the ME?
Is Russian collaboration with Hizballah an indication of new threat to Israel, ie: expect more serious Russian backed Palestinian attacks against Israel?
ME Tensions seem to be developing in an increasingly biblical way.

Maybe it’s just that I’ve been on FR for a long while, but is DEBKA even remotely reliable these days?

This is someone reporting a Debka story, secondhand. Roughly equivalent to a palm reader. This was out yesterday and I have not seen it reported anywhere else.

Folks, I just discovered there was another thread started yesterday on this topic.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3340617/posts

As for Debra - I’ve gotten the impression it’s been an Israel news trial balloon source in the past.
This story’s gist appears to be believable development.

An immediate concern I have is Russia providing advanced weaponry to Iran, and Palestinian terrorists, ie: latest Manpad stinger like missiles, and other surface-to-air weaponry which could cause big Israeli aircraft / crew casualties.

Russia brought in troops and supplies.

Russia said it was going to stop ISIS.

Someone had the idea they wouldn’t be used to fight ISIS?

That someone must have a very strange thought process.

As for Israel, I’m pretty sure they expected Russia to fight ISIS.

DUH.

This is stupid even for Debka.

Has Trunews be around for a while? Don’t recall having seen the site before.

This is a very sophomoric commentary >IMO.

When they are not attempting to seed disinformation about internal or Palestinian movements - Yes. Debka is very accurate and reliable. This is an existential crisis for Israel, worse with the introduction of SA-300 systems Israel no longer has control of their own airspace, let alone the ability to attack Palestinian, Hezbollah, Hamas, or ISIS without a Russian OK. And neither does the US.

Russia now has the military might in Syria to thwart any attempt on Iran, complete with the Dmitri Donskoy (TK-208), Typhoon class with 20 Bulava class ICBMs with 6-10 warheads each.

The unreliable moniker was pinned on them back in the Arafat days, by Jew haters and anti-Zionists, mostly lefties.

i dont know.

i dont think there are many mountains and caves to hide in as Afghanistan.

Also, there is no USA to supply weapons to the enemy this time.

Except whatever they steal from Iraq.

And this time around no one is going to care if Russia goes medieval on them

There is every likelihood that once the Chechens are eliminated at Aleppo, Russia will turn to

a) protecting Iran’s nuclear sites from attack by either Israel or the US, and

b) make some moves with Chinese forces to gain control from Israel of their Leviathan and Tamar offshore gas fields as well as control of various Middle Eastern oil and gas pipelines through Turkey and elsewhere.

There is little sense in the Russians bringing in S-300PMU2 systems and a Typhoon class sub, unless Putin has some very big and ambitious plans - up to and including the use of nukes (which is policy, if conventional forces attacked with conventional weapons).

S-300 can track 100 targets while engaging 12 within 5 minutes of up time using passive radar. It is billed as a US Tomahawk missile killer.

Debka never said that Israel expects Russia to fight ISIS - they expected Russia to attempt to protect the Iranians. You may have misread something. All Bibi’s trips to Moscow were in some part attempts to convince the Russians not to bring in their S-22 systems and then later the S-300 systems. The Russians decided on the newer more deadly S-300s ... very bad news for Israel and any US forces with in 200 miles of Syria.

Russian has not just brought in any old “troops and supplies”, but their marines with the very latest Russian battlefield tech including the R-166-0.5 signals vehicle, BMP-3M Dragun AFVs, and armor to follow. This is not normal. This stuff usually sits on the Russian-Chinese boarder.

Anything is possible.

What we know at this point is that Obama got caught with his pants down yet again.
