MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Tells Bill Maher: We “Nailed” Trump

Greg Evans September 19, 2015

Could this be the end of the Summer of Trump? Both MSNBC’s Chris Matthews and HBO’s Bill Maher wouldn’t be surprised. “We nailed him,” Matthews said last night on Real Time With Bill Maher, crowing about MSNBC’s playing – and replaying – Donald Trump’s non-response response to a supporter’s ludicrous birther assertions and Islamophobic aspersions.

During Real Time‘s mostly-Trump discussion Friday, Maher recalled how just days before he’d teased Hardball host Matthews about MSNBC’s Trump obsession, “and you said that’s because you want to be there when it all implodes.” Maher wondered whether Trump’s seeming acquiescence to a bigoted questioner during a New Hampshire rally Thursday signaled the presidential hopeful’s “peak.”

“We caught him,” Matthews responded, explaining that he and his MSNBC crew were “trying to figure out whether to stick with” Trump’s New Hampshire speech, which had been proceeding without much incident. When Trump announced he’d be taking audience questions, Matthews said, “I said stay with it because we don’t know what’s going to happen. And then he comes back with that birther thing, the President is not an American, the whole routine. I said we’re going to go with this.”

Trump had just started taking questions at the campaign rally when an audience member said, “We have a problem in this country, it’s called Muslims. We know our current president is one — you know he’s not even an American. But anyway, we have training camps growing where they want to kill us. That’s my question, when can we get rid of them?”

Trump’s weak response: “We’re going to be looking at a lot of different things, a lot of people are saying bad things are happening, we’re going to be looking at .....

...and Chris’ wife, Kathleen is in the D-primary for Rep Chris Van Hollen’s seat in Maryland. She was a long time Washington DC TV news anchor. Another incestuous media/politico couple.

Trump knows his friends—and his enemies—he will get his revenge on Chrissy. They Nailed Him? On this? I think not. If Fox did this to Hillary they would be called out for trying to attack a kindly old grandmother. More trash the enemy stuff the people are sick to death of—Every wonder WHY people syport Trump?

Yes, to be very clear. Donald Trump handled the questions that have Chris & Bill so excited, precisely in the most statesman like manner It was a splendid moment for Trump, if one fully understands the context.

But before going into that, let me make it very clear. I am not anti-Muslim. I do not favor large scale immigration from the Near East, for the same reason that I do not favor large scale immigration from most places. We do not need new settlers; we do not need cultural diversity. But that is not directed against Islam. Yet none of that has really anything material to do with the subject of what happened at the Town Meeting.

Trump's approach was not bigoted; not in the slightest. The article shows who was bigoted, and it is those "politically correct" crack-pots, who believe other people have a duty to stifle any thought with which those "politically correct" crackpots do not agree. (The defined category includes Hillary Clinton, and quite a few confused babblers, of which Matthews & Maher are perhaps among the grossest examples.)

Stifling free expression is not the duty of a candidate; it is not the moral duty of anyone. It is, to be sure, the essence of the "politically correct" crackpot! And Donald has already, clearly distanced himself from the "politically correct" crackpots. In that, he is truly a breath of fresh air.

Now Islam is not the issue, in dealing with this thread. Obama's upbringing, and ideological orientation, and the bases for all of that, are continuing issues, whether Matthews & Maher want to gobble something otherwise or not. And many Americans are not convinced that Obama was actually born here. Just who are Matthews & Maher to say that no one should be permitted to inquire into such subjects?

The main thing that everyone needs to keep in mind is that no debate will ever change the fact that Trump will not be beholden to anyone but the voters, and anyone else who might win the nomination (for EITHER party) will essentially be owned by the rich and powerful individuals and organizations who raise the thousands of millions of dollars of the necessary campaign “contributions”.

That is why the big-money power brokers are in such a quandary. Ordinarily, they simply buy whomever looks to be most likely to win, but Trump doesn’t need nor want their money, so all they can do at that point is either attack Trump, “contribute” to losers (which is pretty pointless), or pull out of the game (which again is pointless). Therefore, the only rational option for the rich and powerful (and their media minions) is to take out Trump. They have no other choice.

Yep exactly..this guy is a liberal plant..if he had asked Hillary Clinton a question about her husband being a rapist the media would be hounding this guy and trying to find out everything about him and destroying his life, but not a peep from the media, no name, nothing about his history, because they already know who he is..I knew the second Trump said “We are going to have a question and answer session, ask me ANYTHING you want, even the most disgusting question I dont care” that someone in that audience would be a liberal loon just waiting to strike

I am not anti-Muslim

Perhaps investing 45 minutes of your time, Dr. Bill Warner might well change your mind.

It really should be required watching by all Americans.

Chris is not capable of "nailing" anyone. He is a ridiculous poseur; I used to humiliate persons of his intellectual caliber when I was still in my teens, just simply by discussing the context of issues, that were beyond his ability to comprehend. He is a dolt with delusions of adequacy.

As for Hillary? She is not stupid, like Chris; simply totally dishonest. (Remember, that was recognized as long ago as the Watergate investigation, from which she was fired for lying.)

Trump gained more votes than he lost by his non-response.

I faulted those who criticized megyn kelly for confronting trump with his own words but faulting Trump for somebody else’s words is going a bit too far.

“He was a liberal plant..I wish a Conservative plant would go to one of the Dems townhalls and ask them when they will allow blacks to kill all the white folk and see what they say”

Hillary Clinton doesn’t take questions, so it would be a waste of time to attend.

I never thought this would happen, but since the Megyn Kelly dust up, CNN & MSNBC have better coverage of Trump than Fox News. Every pundit on Fox except Ann Coulter disparages Trump. Much more than they disparage Hillary, Obama or Sanders. Orders must have come down from the top, meaning Murdock.

Weird liberal thinking here:

1. Nothing wrong with being a muslim.

2. Calling someone a muslim is a horrible insult that good people ought to put a stop to.

Trump should have just said, “he went to a supposedly Christian church that curses America repeatedly and teaches a form of marxist black liberation theology, if that is what Christianity is to Obama then fine - he’s a Christian”. Then when reporters asked him about it later he could say he isn’t disputing Obama is a Christian, but takes issue with the type of church Obama was part of for 20 years.

Tough to do in when your taking questions on the fly, but anything to put the spotlight on Jeremiah Wright would have been useful.

The problem Trump will have is he still associates himself with birther conspiracies. Whatever happened to the amazing stuff his investigators were supposedly finding in Hawaii? Yeah, they got nothing.

As far as him being responsible for the release of the long form BC, my guess is Jerome Corsi had as much to do with that as he was about to release a book about Obama’s citizenship that would have been a big bestseller had the long form BC not been released when it was.

Well, this is certainly not true with every Fox host.

Greta and Hannity both slobber over Trump. On weekdays at 7 PM EST and 10 PM EST, you can expect a Trump love fest from both of those Fox hosts. He is not going to get better coverage anywhere else than from Greta or Hannity - which is why a Trump war with Fox is completely counterproductive for him (since he knows Greta and Sean will ultimately defend their co-worker Megyn and any others if it really comes right down to it).
