Why Has Immigration Become Such A Bone Of Contention and Division

The push for the destruction of our current immigration laws has done nothing more than create a bone of contention and division within the American people on Immigration reform

Back in 2007, while President Obama was busy campaigning to become the first black president of the United States, the majority of Americans were fully in support of immigration reform, and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Flash forward to 2015 and you will see unbelievable levels of contempt and refusal to accept anything less than mass deportation of all illegals. Why?

When President Obama took the oath of office in January of 2009, the House and the Senate of the United States was controlled by the Democrats. Obama campaigned for the hispanic vote by making multiple promises of not only addressing immigration, but permanently fixing the problem. He spoke on the issue March 27, 2008, on the Larry King show.

“the majority of Americans were fully in support of immigration reform, and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants”

If by “immigration reform” this Canuck means “enforcing our immigration laws” well, yes
“a path to citizenship for illegals” absolute poppycock, Dutch: “warm horse droppings”.

Before "reform" morphed into "amnesty" people on both sides were calling for it because it was and is recognized as being broken. After the bipartisan gang of eight incorporated amnesty into a baseline "reform" scheme our side had to fall back on fixing the system we have.
(Which, of course, would be equivalent to reform under less toxic conditions.)

By now we're ready for mere enforcement of the imperfect system we have.

Unless the debate returns to focus on whether we do or do not reward existing lawbreakers (at the expense of minorities and legal immigrants), and whether or not we continue to interpret the 14th Amendment according to a random penciled comment in the margins of notes taken by just one justice, the debate is doomed to an aimless feud that will end only when overcome by the event of a ruined nation.

AND: Lest anyone accuse me of being soft on illegals and/or "diversity", my hometown recently declared itself the "Northern capital of latin America" in its application for another Olympics and today's news touted L.A's almost 49% Hispanic population.
Oh frabjous day!

Rubberio’s Gang wasn’t when “reform” morphed into amnesty. That was all the way back in 2006 with McCain/Kennedy.
In fact that was what W. meant when he kept saying it in 2000 at the same time he was saying “no amnesty”, what he really meant was amnesty.

Amnesty is the only remedy considered by those who are responsible for the flood of fraudulently documented foreigners which started the day after the last amnesty which was supposed to be a “one time, never to be repeated” action.

There was never any intent to fully implement the laws they passed to prevent another amnesty guaranteeing the need for another in their minds.

We were scammed in 1986 and have been fighting tooth and nail to avoid the same scam again since they started pushing for it again in 2006.

“there has been great economic and/or personal harm done to innocents, or other egregious misbehavior has been visited upon unsuspecting folks.”

On target. The pig politicians and the Nazi media care more about alien invader rapists and murderers than American citizens.

Because this is the quickest way to destroy the USA. Those who want to destroy us are outraged at the very thought that their best weapon will be neutralized.

Well said. They want to destroy demographically who they can’t destroy politically.

Too many of the legal immigrants are also out to destroy us, notably those who come from enemy countries or involved with the corrupt asylum program. Many of the Somalis are legal. Huge numbers of them rape, support ISIS, and demand welfare.
