EXCLUSIVE: Read Office Depot’s Explanation For Refusing To Print Anti-Planned Parenthood Flyers
The Daily Caller ^ | 09/11/2015 | Casey Harper

The Daily Caller News Foundation has obtained Office Depot’s explanation for why it refused to serve a woman who wanted to print 500 anti-Planned Parenthood flyers.

Maria Goldstein, 42, of Illinois requested the flyers Aug. 20, but an employee refused, citing corporate policy. Goldstein said she is being discriminated against because of her religious beliefs and obtained legal counsel.

Office Depot has stood by its refusal and says in the letter that it refused because the flyer is “graphic” and “hate speech” that persecutes those who support abortion rights. Office Depot says it has nothing to do with the woman’s religious beliefs, but she disagrees.

“When I tell people they’re shocked because this is America,” Goldstein told TheDCNF Thursday. “Office Depot is trying to silence my freedom of speech and my freedom of religion.”

Goldstein has teamed up with the religious liberty group the Thomas More Society. They told TheDCNF they will likely file a legal complaint if Office Depot does not comply.

Their business is to print things for their customers- NOT TO pass judgment on what they want printed

When did Office Depot become the arbiter on the merits of someone’s Religious Beliefs?

Hate speech?

I now HATE Office Depot.

I have bought everything for the office from Office Depot since it opened its local store. Having stated that I will NEVER buy ANYTHING from this chain again.

Print them on her home computer and indicate Office Depot supports abortion on the other side. Hand them out outside their stores!

Goldstein said she is being discriminated against because of her religious beliefs and obtained legal counsel.

Obtained legal counsel for what? Now she's going to use the courts to coerce Office Depot into serving her? Isn't this what Christians protested against in the gay wedding cake thing? This isn't a 1st amendment issue. Freedom of the press belongs to the guy who owns the press. Just find another printer lady.

The first amendment freedom of assembly includes for the reason of business. Likewise, just as the rest of the first amendment protections included the right NOT to do something, the freedom of assembly includes the right to NOT assemble for the purpose of business.

In other words, the business has the right to not accept the business.

At the time of the request, it was thought that the prayer was protected by a copyright, though that was later found to be not true. Any printer or publisher will tell you that reproducing copyrighted material will get them into big legal trouble.

The flier was just text, no disturbing photos, no reason for any reasonable company not print it. That letter from the Office Depot lawyer was both officious and obnoxious. I think I’ll be taking my business elsewhere in the future. Screw them!

“the business has the right to not accept the business.”

Yup. And we have the right to never give them business ever again.
