Scott Walker to sign legislation expanding gun rights in Wisconsin

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) plans to sign two new laws on Wednesday that expand the rights of gun owners by removing a 48-hour waiting period for those looking to purchase a firearm and allowing off-duty or retired police officers to carry concealed weapons at public schools. This action will come one week after a suspected gunman shot and killed nine people in an African American church in South Carolina, yet again prompting a national discussion about gun laws in the U.S.

Walker plans to sign the two pieces of legislation — Senate bills 35 and 70 — at a ceremony at the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday afternoon, according to a Tuesday evening press release from the governor's office. Laurel Patrick, a spokeswoman for the governor, said this bill-signing was scheduled and announced about two weeks ago, several days before the shooting occurred in South Carolina............

Walker plans to sign the two pieces of legislation — Senate bills 35 and 70 — at a ceremony at the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday afternoon..

The Office of Milwuakee County Sheriff - David Clarke.

Tom Barrett is the Mayor of Milwaukee that Walker keeps beating in elections [inc the recall election].

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke appeared together on "Piers Morgan Tonight" on CNN on Tuesday.

2013 - Sheriff says weapon would have helped when mayor beaten "..........But Clarke fired back as well. He brought up the 2009 incident near the Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis when Barrett was beaten severely by a man wielding a tire iron.

"I'm sure that if you had a gun and a plan that day, the outcome would have been a little different," Clarke said to Barrett, who was in a different studio. "I'm asking that law-abiding citizens who make the decision that they see their personal security as their individual responsibility in a like situation can respond as they see fit."

Clarke gained national attention last week after a public service announcement ad began airing on local radio. In the ad, Clarke told listeners not to count on police responding rapidly to their 911 calls. Instead, he said, people need to consider taking a gun-safety course "so you can defend yourself until we get there."

Critics, including Roy Felber, the president of the Milwaukee Deputy Sheriffs' Association, said Clarke's comments seemed to be a call to vigilantism, a charge Clarke has fiercely rejected.

Barrett, who is a co-founder of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, has been a vocal proponent of President Barack Obama's call for new gun laws. The group, which includes the mayors of more than 800 cities across the country, backs universal background checks for all gun sales; the banning of so-called assault weapons; and placing a limit on high-capacity magazines............"

Since WAPO wants to somehow tie this legislation to SC, maybe they could tell us how a 48 hour waiting period would have changed anything there

The juxtaposition is absurd, as usual.

Exactly. It's totally illogical to say a waiting period would "help." 'No one helped her': NJ woman murdered by ex while awaiting gun permit

The signing of these bills couldn't have happened at a better time because the Left wanted to turn the killings in Charleston into another gun grab.

"...The hysterical shrieking about the fictitious rape epidemic on college campuses, the attempts to fan the unhappy events in Ferguson and Baltimore into a national racial conflagration, the silly and shallow “inequality” talk — these are signs of progressivism in decadence.

So is the brouhaha over the Confederate flag in South Carolina in the wake of the horrific massacre at Emanuel AME Church. For about 30 seconds, the political ghouls of the Left were looking to pick another gun-control fight, swooping in, in their habitually indecent fashion, before the bodies had even grown cold. But that turned out to be a dead end, since the killer acquired his gun after passing precisely the sort of background check that the Left generally hawks after a high-profile crime, regardless of whether it is relevant to the crime. We might have spent some time thinking about whether law enforcement was too lax in the matter of the murderer’s earlier encounters with them — the South Carolina killer had a drug arrest on his record but was able to buy a gun because he had been charged only with a misdemeanor. But the Left isn’t in any mood to talk about whether the cops aren’t being hard-assed enough. So, instead, we had a fight over a completely unrelated issue: the Confederate flag flying at the state capitol in Columbia...." I love it when I see a police officer for gun rights. Some of them think it’s good for me but not for thee.

I also think Walker is very brave to do this right now. Considering he’s running for President and considering the shooting in SC. It shows he stands up for what he believes rather than fearing upsetting someone who might vote for him.

All other RINOs are focused on taking down a flag. Because it is easy symbolism.
All other RINOs are trying to see who is the best liberal butt kisser.

Walker is protecting the Constitution with ACTIONS.

Thank you Wisconsin voters.

My only hope left is that a President Scott Walker will somehow reverse that horrible country destroying Obamatrade

This Obama trade deal is a trojan horse. It’s disguised as “free trade” What It really allows is for Obama to flood the USA with an unlimited number of 3rd world immigrants ...

Walker supports free trade. Unless the deal is very clearly harming the US, I doubt he will reverse it. These trade deals stick better than the constitution.
