Lloyd, a feisty New Jersey native who delivered the winning goal in the Americans’ quarterfinal win over China on Friday, was the difference again. Freed to roam forward by Coach Jill Ellis for the second game in a row, she did just that: teasing, fighting, scrapping and, in the end, scoring.

“We knew we had this in us. This team had a lot of confidence and we’ve done a really good job of blocking out you guys,” USA coach Jill Ellis told reporters after the game.

Rotten loss for England but I’d say Congratulations to the women, they really gave it their best. To take it philosophically, maybe Japan was the better team. If England could defeat Germany of all teams, to win 3rd, that’d be some consolation. Go England.
