Who hasn't looked up at the star-studded night sky and wondered, "Where did everything come from?"
There are many ways to address this question. It was Edwin Hubble whose telescopic observations of galaxies in 1929 led to the major discovery that the universe is expanding, and that the rate of expansion is proportional to how far the galaxies are from one another. The farther apart they are, they faster they are going. This result implies there was a time about 13.75 billion years ago when the universe began in an event we now call the Big Bang.
The evidence suggests the Big Bang was something mind-blowing in its scale, described in the theory of inflation, first presented by Alan Guth in 1979 and elaborated upon in his book "The Inflationary Universe" (Perseus Books, 1997). Guth suggests the entire universe came essentially out of nowhere, at a rate that is incomprehensible: Within a trillionth of a trillionth of a trillionth of a second, the universe expanded by a factor of 1078 in volume that's a 10 with 78 zeros after it. We really have no idea how this happened, which naturally gives rise to many theories.

Since scientists utilized some of this theory to blow the living crap out of a couple of Japanese cities, you’re remark seems just a little disingenuous.
Cosmology gives us insight, a bit at a time, into the mind of God.
Frankly, that seems more a gift to me.
I don’t think they used “hidden time” to build the a-bomb.
Wouldn’t that be awesome to sit there dumbfounded and listen to the answer?
I can see “The Big Bang” Theory on TV every night. Kelley C. is a bright, shining star, in my world.
I also wanna hear about all the other zillions of intelligent lifeforms He created. Bet you a buck they all worship Him. :)
One foot vertically - its obvious.
Just any excuse to nitpick, eh?
That would be “south”
“I figure everything gets sucked into Black Holes. The the Black Holes suck each other up, and when its full, the gigantic Black Hole burps, and it starts all over!”
OK. Love the science, but how many cycles have taken place and how did it all start? We’re back to the original question, “Where did everything come from and how did it all start?”. That’s the basic problem with any ‘cyclic universe’ theory. It doesn’t address the primary question everyone wants to know.
Of possible interest (as a FYI) to my “giant” ping list.
I’ve often wished I had some hidden time, other than the time that is not very well hidden in my changing hair color.
At the half-way point of the article, the space-time warp caused by the Boxman ads caused the whole space.com web site to do the Big Crunch. I was able to leave the event horizon in the nick of time.
The simplest truth defies our understanding, because our understanding cannot embrace infinity which is inherent in every particle in our universe. However, that doesn’t negate the value of our god-given ability to think.
By definition, God exists outside of time and matter, so differing timescales or states have no bearing on ontology. God is not afraid that some new discovery will invalidate His Word. Why are so many of his children?
Most of the “life forms” in the Middle East don’t worship Him.
Answer: The Big Dinner and a couple of drinks.
There is the bang and there is the crunch. both are related to energy and gravity.
after the bang, a release of matter, the matter is dispersed in all directions because the force of the energetic discharge is greater than the gravity holding the matter together.
at some point, as the matter travels outward from the point of discharge, the force of gravity will begin to reassert and slow and finally overcome the energetic force of dispersion.
at that point, collapse will begin and gravity will cause all the matter to accrete towards the origin and the crunch will complete the cycle.
locally, the moon is accreted matter formerly earth rings. The nine planets and all the asteroids are the sun’s rings. All will are part of the milky way galactic accretion
galactic accretion is the result of gravitational attraction within matter in the dispersing matter field and a precursor to the reverse action or collapse to the crunch.
I know you didn’t ask, but I felt duty bound to remove all the equations and calculations and set the matter straight in simple terms.
PS: Time is the interval between the initial bang dispersal and the final crunch accretion

So they keep making up things to stave off facing their visceral dread of their own complete dependence upon something other than their (outrageously inflated) concept of themselves.
God is not afraid that some new discovery will invalidate His Word. Why are so many of his children?
Like whom? Back when science was actually discovering and innovating, Catholic priests were innovating science.
