Mine's one of the Boker copies, with the *boot knife* 4.5-inch blade. My preference for locking folders is to have matched ones, one on either side, preferably with one *mirror image* version rather than two identical; that's more a matter of use as a utility knife than as a fighter/s. Right now I'm carrying two 2$ Wal-Mart *Ozark Trail* cheapies, which do the job okay. Plus, of course, the *real knife.*
Yep my strong side blade is the large combat folder and my weak side is the Surefire E2DLUA Flashlight ....
Tore up a bad guy with the crenellations on that high dollar yarawa stick a few years back that had trapped my right arm . Big fan of that model and type flashlight for less than lethal carry needs.
GOMK Knives aka “get off me knife” do not have to be fancy and expensive.... in no knife / no gun cities I buy the oxo paring knife thats maybe 6$ at walmart..... disposable as I get out of the cab at the airport....
In such dire circumstances [hasn't happened in the last five years or so, near as I can recall] I most generally have a pair of baby vise-grip pliers and a Phillips screwdriver, just in case I need to adjust/tighten the antenna screw on my portable radio. Of course, it helps a lot if you really do have a portable radio with a loose external antenna.
I've also been known to carry a dirt-cheap 35mm film camera, available for as little as $5.00-$10.00 from the few pawn shops that still have the things. And, of course, a nice web carry strap, which, once no longer around my neck, turns into a pretty fair imitation of a Morningstar flail, the old spiked-ball-on-a-chain type. Yep, I used that one once, outside Rhein-Main airport on my way to the hauptbahnhof, long ago, when I was MUCH younger. The fella was Turkish, or a close relative.
Watched a young stupid teen try to take on a old man. Kid had a knife and the man pulled off his belt, snapped a carabiner loaded with keys on the buckle and almost killed that kid with his improvised street weapon..... not what you use as much as knowing how to use it......
Beware the old, sick and tired guy with a holstered pistol.
I have been known to carry a padlock on a strap, that goes through the airports quite nicely. The big padlocks that I prefer probably weigh as much as your cameras..
I do like the camera idea though. First saw it in the movie, “Wait until Dark”.
There were a couple of New York street punks who tried to roll an elderly German tourist a couple of decades back, before the days of common cell phones. Bad choice.
The old German was a fencing master, in the USA to judge an Olympic trials match. He had an umbrella with him, took care of the matter at hand, and then went off to perform his duty. Afterward, he went to considerable lengths to officially report the matter to the local cop precinct, wishing to be korrect.
On their NYPD report, the amused cops listed the cause of death as *suicide.* Which it sort of was.
Note to self: swipe procedure as a backup plan to cameras and sharp pointy things. Thanks, MT.
