LINDENHURST, N.Y. (PIX11)– Suffolk County police are investigating a possible hate crime targeting an African-American family in Lindenhurst.
Ronica Copes, a resident of the suburban neighborhood, received a letter saying “YOU DON’T BELONG HERE” and other hateful words on Thursday.
Understandably so, she was disappointed at the sight of the hateful letter.
“Unbelievable but then it’s not…our daily reality, I’ve just never seen it in this form,” Copes posted on Facebook.
The writer of the flyer who says “Lidenhurst is 84 percent white” urges Copes in bold capital letters to “LEAVE AS SOON SHE CAN” because “IT WILL BE BETTER FOR ALL OF US.”
The racist letter gained the attention of county executive Steven Bellone, who lashed out against the author of the flyer in a statement Friday.
“To the coward who committed a hate crime against an innocent family in Lindenhurst — There is no place for intolerance in Suffolk County. I know the Suffolk County Police Department will do everything possible to solve this hate crime, out you and see you punished. I stand together with all Lindenhurst residents who decry this act of hatred. This community and all of Suffolk County are better than that.”
While police continue their investigation, Copes is thankful for the support she’s received during the ordeal.
“Thank you all for sharing your frustrations, opinions, suggestions, and concerns!” she said. “Will keep you abreast of the outcome.”

If there were graphs and charts, it would have been a liberal democrat who sent the letter. But I think it was a liberal democrat anyway

These are always produced by those trying to create victim status.
A few things: First, she's a publicist and her LinkIn profile suggests that she currently has no clients. Second, the letter is typed. That's a big red flag. Third, the envelope says it's from "Community" and the note claims to be "from Lindenhurst Community." White people don't commonly refer to their "community," but it's a common trope among blacks. Finally, it's addressed to "African-American Family." Anybody else skeptical that a racist would address a letter telling people to move to "African-American Family," as opposed to say "--- Racist Epithet ---"? I know I am...
Nationally the black population is about 13%, so a 15% minority in the community is about right. But it’s very odd to include a statistic like that, which is why I suspect the “victim” wrote it herself.
The police will immediately dust the letter for prints, and try to get DNA off the stamp. Only “Unibomber” Ted Kaczynski was smart enough to use gloves and something moist for the stamp. Most fools don’t.
If there is homeowner DNA on the stamp, it is a fraud. If it is person or persons unknown, then the investigation will continue.
If the letter was just dropped in their mailbox, not mailed, there still might be DNA or fingerprints on it.
If it's real, it's not a crime, but it certainly would qualify as racist. That's bad enough.
There are plenty of real incidents like this that I remember seeing with my own eyes in my youth, which didn't make national news back then.
Whenever it happens for real (and it does) on any side of the racial divide, it's a terrible thing.

The fact the blacks are more commonly racist nowadays than whites certainly doesn't change the observation that bigots of all colors are a weak and dwindling minority.
Indeed, most Americans of all races have long since put behind them the idiocy of racism and bigotry in all of its forms. The vast majority of Americans (the ones we don't see on the news, but who we interact with every day) simply want to live and let live.
I'm happy to say that I experience overwhelming evidence of Americans' inherent goodness every single day, from every race, religion, culture, and economic strata.
And that reality is what makes the race-hustlers and the bigoted fringe look so foolish and misguided to the vast majority of us.
Agreed. This incident establishes the existence of at least one bigot. I hope they find out who it is, and I don’t much care what color they are.

The "hate note" was too clever by half.
It has all the false hallmarks as mentioned.
I'm surprised it didn't read: "Persons of color, we are using our white privilege and are here to disenfranchise you. Consider yourself micro-aggressed. Sincerely, Local Hate Group."
