With the Women’s World Cup less than 20 days away, the United States women’s national team defeated Mexico 5-1 in the team’s penultimate send-off match.

Their final match before the World Cup is on May 30th against Korea Republic at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.

Kobe Bryant was in attendance at the StubHub Center in Los Angeles as the USWNT improved their stellar record against Mexico, bagging five goals in an absolute drubbing.

The United States came out of the gates firing, and could have scored three or four goals early if not for the stellar play of Cecilia Santiago in goal for Mexico.

A sellout crowd of 27,000 showed up to the StubHub Center in Carson, CA and the nearly entirely pro-United States crowd got a treat.

My daughter came up in a neighborhood soccer league that had neither travel nor an academy program, and she didn't switch to travel until U13. I don't really know how it works for really young kids. Back then, we didn't even start organized play until U8, although that has changed. Maybe some clubs are starting academies at U6 (although that sounds awfully early), but I would be shocked at a tryout for kids that age.

Maybe it's different in those high-rent neighborhoods with cutthroat competition for the Ivy League-feeder childcare centers. Do you live in one of those?

I live on Stralau. They said they are likely starting U6 next year and invited my daughter for a tryout.
