Trayvon Martin’s mother: ‘Collectively we have a problem’
Fusion ^ | May 7, 2015 | Jorge Rivas

It’s been three years since Sybrina Fulton’s son was shot and killed by a vigilante neighbor in Florida. Now, she says, after seeing what’s happened to other young black unarmed men, it’s never been clearer that Trayvon’s skin color led to him being profiled and killed.

“It was not about that hoodie, and I need to tell you that,” Fulton told a standing room only crowd in Los Angeles on Wednesday. “It was absolutely about the color of his skin.”

Fulton, who became an activist against gun violence after Trayvon Martin’s death in 2012, spoke during a discussion hosted by Manifest Justice, a week-long art exhibition centered around justice. The line of 1,000 people waiting to hear Fulton speak went around the block, with some people standing up to two hours in line on an unusually cold day.

“It’s about admitting when we have a problem,” Fulton told the crowd. “Collectively, we have a problem that we need to fix. It’s time to stop pretending we don’t have an issue.

“My son is not here to speak for himself. I am Trayvon Martin,” she said.

Through her Trayvon Martin Foundation, Fulton works with other mothers who have lost their sons to senseless gun violence, helping them to heal and training them to become advocates in their own communities to end gun violence. Martin’s father, Tracy Martin, has a similar program working with fathers who have lost sons to gun violence.

She has also spoken out about “stand your ground” laws, the state-level laws that allow a person to use deadly force in self-defense. George Zimmerman, the man who killed her son, told a courtroom he shot Martin because he feared for his own life.

“Prior to this happening to my son I didn’t know anything about ‘stand your ground,’ and I think people are more aware of these types of laws and racial profiling and the disparities we have here in the United States,” told Fusion before the discussion, which was moderated by actress Rosario Dawson.

“I just think it’s unfortunate that a person has to lose their life in order for us to uncover certain things,” she said.

The event was co-hosted with the human rights group Amnesty International’s Art for Amnesty initiative, which uses art to call attention to social issues, and the California Endowment, a foundation that provides grants to community groups throughout the state.

Fulton still resides in Miami Gardens, where Trayvon Martin went to high school. She says the community has supported the family through this journey, though she said she’s most often stopped by people who recognize her when she’s traveling through airports.

“I grew up in the area and people know I haven’t changed any. It’s just the work that I do in the community that’s changed,” she said.

"But, Sabrina Fulton types remain blind and embrace a doctrine of victimhood, blaming others for their mistakes and racism."

How true, it's the lifestyle the democrats have taught them--and that's all they've ever taught them!

Isn’t it obvious how badly they want all of their worst nightmares of racism to be true when they have real evidence that those “nightmares” are not? “By Any Means Necessary” includes fantastic stories and intentional misinformation. Why that is not inciting a riot, I have no idea!!!

Argument Points 1 thru 11

Hitler's Big Lie Principle: told long enough, often enough and loud enough, the Big Lie will prevail.

(At least, he thought so for a while, until it caught up with him at a tremendous cost to mankind.)

May the Big Media's Lies that Sybrina is repeating catch up with her, and soon.

1. ‘George Zimmerman (GZ) racially profiled Trayvon Martin (TM)’ There is no evidence of this.

So what if he did? I don't see the problem here? People who don't racially profile are oblivious to reality.

To point #3 “He got out of his car”: He got out of his car to check the street number on the apartment so he could tell the dispatcher where he was. He couldn’t read the numbers from the car because it was dark. He did not get out of his car to look for Trayvon or go after him. Trayvon jumped him.

“It was absolutely about the color of his skin.”

She's right. Like the thief and thug Trayvon she spawned, people with Black skin color commit a staggeringly high percentage of crime in America -- far beyond their numbers.

The line of 1,000 people waiting to hear Fulton speak went around the block, with some people standing up to two hours in line on an unusually cold day.

The fact that a large segment of America would make an absentee mother of a feral thug some kind of heroine speaks volumes about how Progressives how destroyed the fabric of our nation. It also explains how that Black SUBWAY worker could celebrate the murders of two Mississippi cops.

You are making the mistake of what people call “projection”. It used to be how people watched movies, but now it is a parsing of what used to be called “common sense”. Facts, reality, and truth are obviously irrelevant to this situation as is demonstrated here!

Jorge presents an execellent example of the kind of Left Wing agitprop thats directly responsible for inflaming tensions and inciting people to riot in places like Ferguson and Baltimore.

Collectively 12% of the population commits 50% of the violent crime. That is the problem.

Pray America is waking

Great Post. The Great Society of LBJ has done more to destroy the Black family than any other policy in history.

Once people become entitlement minded, they tend not to want to take any responsibility for the outcome of their lives. Parents don’t take responsibility for the way they raise their kids, and they don’t want their kids held accountable for their actions either. It’s much easier to live in denial and blame others. God Bless Sheriff Clarke and others like him who tell the truth.

Activist, BS. The woman is still trying to make a buck off her dead son.

It is easy to see why her son made such bad choices. Was she there to teach him the basic rights and wrongs of life? Nosiree. Was she there when Trayvon needed some correction and extreme parental guidance? Nosiree. Bad parental skills and poor involvement led an immature Trayvon (he was just a child, remember) into facing a manhood situation for which he was unprepared. AND, when a child confronts an adult, the child is usually the loser. Color doesn’t matter, age and maturity do. PLUS, Somebody forgot to tell Trayvon to respect his elders.

If she would admit to her parental shortcomings instead of blaming someone else, she would be saving the lives of many future Trayvons. That would be a real tribute to Trayvon.

Now you know why that momma pulled her son out of the rioting, she cared enough to give the very best, a kick in the a$$, to the son she loved. Children need a momma and a daddy who care enough to disciple and raise them correctly. Black lives do matter to parents who care.

I followed the Zimmerman trial closely online, live. The facts can be summarized as follows. Zimmerman expected the police to arrive momentarily, Martin could have gone home with no difficulty. All relevant evidence and testimony indicates that Zimmerman fired the shot out of desperation. All except the trial testimony of Trayvon Martin’s parents, which if believed makes the physical evidence a complete puzzle.

“It was absolutely about the color of his skin.”

No it wasn't. Not that being suspicious of young black men in such attire isn't warranted. That is not GZs fault, it the fault of the "black community".

Collectively, we have a problem that we need to fix.

Yeah, and a big clue about the source of the problem is waiting in your mirror. And "we" is everyone else like you and that crip boyfriend/ husband/whatever of yours.

Prior to this happening to my son I didn’t know anything about ‘stand your ground,’...

You still don't. Or much else for that matter.
