During an undergraduate Political Science class a few decades ago one of my professors discussed the difference between Stalin and Hitler. While both were indeed power hungry and responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of people, they were distinctly different in motivation.
Stalin, he suggested, was completely focused on power. He didn’t care how he got it or who he had to work with or betray in order to get it or keep it. If you were in his way, he would crush you and not think twice about it. If however you got out of his way and ceased to be a threat, he likely would not care.
Hitler, my professor opined, was another animal all together. While he too was focused on power, power was not his animating influence. The superiority of the Aryan race was. Like Stalin, he would work with those he didn’t respect, and he too would crush anyone who was in his way both enemies and erstwhile friends. But with Hitler there was something more. He wanted to eliminate or exterminate the “Untermensch” or those deemed subhuman. This group included Jews, gypsies and slavs among others. Some could be “Germanized” such as the slavs, while others, like the Jews, had to be exterminated. And in the case of the Jews, had Hitler been given the chance it’s likely he would have sought to exterminate them from every corner of the earth.
And that, according to my professor, was the difference between the two. Stalin wanted power for power’s sake, and so long as someone wasn’t a threat to him, he largely didn’t care. Hitler on the other hand wanted power because he felt it rightfully belonged to him and his race and because those he considered defective sullied the human race, and had to be eliminated, wherever they were. He was a fanatic to the cause.
All of this came back to me when I read a piece on RedState.com titled “Gaystapo Takes No Prisoners: GoFundMe Torpedoes Sweet Cakes” about the torpedoing of a GoFundMe account set up to support an Oregon couple persecuted by the state for not baking cakes for a gay wedding. Gaystapo is a term I’d never heard, but it immediately seemed to fit. Like Hitler’s Gestapo, the secret police who were above the law and responsible for eliminating threats to the Reich, the Gaystapo seems to believe their role is to eliminate what they consider threats to the gay agenda, wherever they may be.
Just as my professor suggested that Hitler would have sent his troops to the far corners of the earth to eliminate the Untermensch Jews, apparently the Gaystapo seek to eliminate the religious freedoms of any who disagree with them. Whether it’s bakers or photographers or pizza makers or chapels, those whose religious convictions compel them to decline to participate in gay marriage activities must be driven from the public square – even if the issue is purely hypothetical. They should be sued or harassed or prosecuted into oblivion, First Amendment be damned.
And we’re not even talking about people who refuse to serve gay customers, which most of the offending proprietors happily do, but rather, we are talking about people who simply decline to participate in gay marriage activities.

If you follow the link I posted earlier, you will find out that Himmler was likely intolerant of "femme" Homosexuals. and hated weakness or effeminate behavior in Homosexuals, but loved "Butch" or Sadistic Domination behavior from Homosexuals.

True. Himmler, for example, was considered a prude on sexual matters. But he too had a mistress and children with her on the side.
The funniest story was Ernst Kaltenbrunner, Heydrich’s replacement, who was disguised and was about to make his escape, until he was spotted by his mistress who called out his name, immediately his was captured, and eventually executed.

Nahh, the Italian fascists would have won. Look at pictures of Benito Mussolini as a young up-and-coming politician. He was a regular GQ fashion plate.
So many of those Italian uniforms were just totally over the top. They were just fabulous!
Yes. That happened. A lot of SS men had mistresses and children outside of marriage. This was even encouraged. Part of Himmler’s plan to breed large numbers of Aryan children and expand the race. Funny though, with the exception of Heydrich, few of the top Nazis were tall, blond, and blue eyed.
I think the dark black SS Hugo Boss uniforms win the WWII fashionista award generally speaking. Though you’re right about il Duce strutting around like a peacock in his Liberace-like attire.
Interesting thing is that, despite his Nazi ties being completely overblown for political purposes and out of spite by FDR and Ickes, Charles Lindburg believed the same and had two, possibly three, secret families with Germanic mistresses.

I’m not sure of this. One story I did read was that Joseph Kennedy Sr., the notorious appeaser and US Ambassador to the Court of St. James was provided a series of German women by the German ambassador to London. The German ambassador was very familiar with American ambassador’s vices as well as cowardice and pro-Nazi sympathies.

Actually, Lindy’s secret families are pretty well known. The children have been acknowleged as (half) siblings by at least some of his children with Anne Morrow.
I did not know that about Charles Lindbergh. I always assumed he was a good family man. And the tragedy with his baby being kidnapped and murdered. That’s primarily what I remember about him. It is said too that he was a Nazi sympathizer. He clearly was in awe of German airpower and maybe he was trying to warn us to be wary of it. Of course it is well known about FDR’s numerous mistresses. Evidently the Roosevelts had a marriage similar to that of the Clintons-—a power sharing arrangement more than anything most of us would associate with a normal marriage.
I think this is a bad comparison. Yes, Stalin was not the racist/antisemite that Hitler was, but both Hitler and Stalin espoused totalitarian political ideologies—that is they saw the State as involved in and controlling all aspects of everyone’s life.
Hitler coyly didn’t choose to destroy the capitalist systems in place, rather through his police state just steered them all in the service of the State, while Stalin’s communism demanded an utterly centralized economy (which oddly, since this impoverished the USSR, thereby limited his wealth and power...). So Hitler focused on total racial/antisemitic control, while Stalin focused on total economic control—allowing leeway in the racial/antisemitic side...but BOTH followed a totalitarian path. (However, in my experience some of THE most antisemitic native Europeans today are those from former communist, eastern Europe, and Russia).
A better comparison is both those totalitarians with your typical corrupt Latin dictator, a more “pure” authoritarian, who only wants himself, family and friends to stay in power, but, if you’re doing something unconnected with politics, could care less. Christians and missionaries for example fare MUCH better in such dictatorships than they ever did in the USSR (which destroyed churches and made anyone professing Christianity 2nd class citizens at best), or Nazi Germany—which co-opted churches to make them support the 3rd Reich.
Of course the most effective dictators know that a totalitarian system, appears to be the most effective way of keeping them in power (see North Korea), since it theoretically ties up all loose ends. If you always control everything, than nothing can threaten your power.
This doesn’t always work though. In tired Communist East Germany for example, the protest movement which eventually culminated in tearing the Berlin Wall down in ‘89—opening the borders, so that the Communist regime HAD to fall, started with protests against the arrest of a simple pastor in Leipzig (Bach’s home-town, incidentally). So suppression of “harmless” Christianity under German Communism backfired...and freedom came, for tens of millions.
Christians should pray it happens again—especially in North Korea, and the Middle East.
