Mount Baekdu is set to explode according to experts and if that isn't shocking enough, keep in mind that Baekdu is responsible for one of the worst eruptions in the last 2,000 years.
Professor Yoon Seong-hyo from Pusan National University urged officials to keep a close eye on the highest peak of the Korean peninsula. Baekdu is an active volcano located on the border between North Korea and China.
The caldera or cauldron of the Baekdu volcano, which is sometimes called Paektu or Changbai, has risen a centimetre since July, according to new research.
"The mountains's height has risen about 10 centimetres between 2002 and 2005," Yoon added, speaking to the Korea Times. "It then began to sink in 2009. The shift changed only recently, which is significant."
Additionally the temperature near the caldera geyser has also risen significantly jumping from 70C to 83C. Yoon also took a look at other parameters like helium concentration which went from 6.5 times normal atmosphere levels to seven times.
"All these signs indicate the magma inside the mountain is moving upward," he said. "We need to monitor the mountain closely.
According to a different paper published five years ago, Baekdu had a Magnitude 7 explosive eruption about 1,000 years ago. Despite having a low magma temperature, the powerful volcano ejected a volume of more than 100 km3.

Though a nice thought....one volcanic eruption, even a huge one, isn't going to get rid of NK...
NAMBOLA (North American Media-Barack Obama Love Association).
I am so stealing that!
Nothing on his right wrist .http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3033577/So-nuclear-weapon-threats-North-Korea-Unarmed-Dictator-Kim-reveals-wrist-injury-tours-weapons-factory.html
You gotta wonder. Would a catastrophe that measurably cooled the earth for years give alarmists a reason to back off to save face? Nah.
Well, a volcano of this size blowing would get “anthropomorphic” climate change right off the hook.
I believe that the sound (pressure wave) passed through the atmosphere and circled the globe twice! Worldwide weather stations noted two "blips" on their barographs, (instruments used to continuously record atmospheric pressure Vs time). The two blips were spaced exactly by the time required for the sound to travel the Earth's circumference.

Likewise with dogs.
“Those brave Krakatoans!”
FYI: Add a 3rd Indonesian Volcano, Toba, for pre-historical impact. A ~70,000 BC eruption arguably may have created a human population 'bottleneck' of a mere 4 digit survival. Many researchers attribute the homogenous genetic makeup of Homo Sapiens to this event. While the last Northern Hemisphere Ice Age was already in progress (~110k BC), its 'nuclear winter' effect may have had the most significant physical influence on modern humans of any event since.
We'll have to wait until hearing from two of the world's meteorological experts, Deb Feyerick and Bill Nye "The Science Guy" regarding this phenomenon.
You have to admit the whole climate change thing is a brilliant scam. There’s always some crazy weather event going on somewhere to shreik about and attribute to.
Comcast buying the Weather Channel to use for influencing LIVs was a master stroke also.
You don’t need to worry about simple volcanos.
What we face from comet fragments is a lot worse,
The Taurid meteor showers this month could bring
an extinction level event, and we wouldn’t even
see it coming. So there is always that to look
forward to.
Have a nice day.
Actually the “year without a summer” was 1816, following the 1815 eruption of Tambora, also in Indonesia. The effects of Krakatao in 1883 were also felt worldwide. I noted that “salt water taffy” in Atlantic City was named in 1883 after a tidal surge damaged taffy which they renamed to get it sold. I am wondering if there was a minor tsunami. Interesting research topic. While a major eruption would certainly hurt NK, it would also impact Japan. See map of a 4 phase spread of ashes at the site below which has a lot of other good stuff.
I decided to look at the claim of a 535 eruption leading to the rise of Islam. This is a fascinating story. I had previously read about Cassiodorus’s description. The link below goes into great detail, with extensive quotes from the ancients. Apparently after the years of darkness and famine, there was a period extensive plague. Descriptions sound like bubonic, or hemorragic illnesses. If food was scarce, rats might have migrated into the towns looking for food and carrying disease (my thought). Mohammad’s dates are 570 to 632. I disagree with the article’s main thought that Islam rose because the world needed/wanted a new savior. I am more inclined to think that the West had already declined terribly. Desert Arabs might have been spared some of the disease of urban areas and were positioned to take advantage of civilization’s weakness.
There may have been a combination of boloid and volcanic influences. Laki in Iceland 1783? may have caused enough hunger in Europe to set the stage for the French Revolution. In Winchester’s book he describes how Muslims used the Krakatoa eruption to foment rebellion against the Dutch. And interestingly, Yemen was involved. Regarding pressure waves, I was reading about the 1902 eruption of Mt Pelee in Martinique. Several men there were looking at their barometers regularly to gauge the likelihood of a major eruption. The must have had information from the scientific studies of Krakatoa, which were new science. 1902, 1903 were busy years volcanically. The Baekdu volcano is reported to become active about each 100 years. 1903 was the last time. I don’t think it is likely to erupt this year based on the scientific readings, but perhaps this decade.

Does that mean we get rid of China and N Korea at the same time? Oh nooooes!
“Likewise with dogs.”
William F. Buckley recounted a story about an old woman who asked her priest if dogs would be in Heaven. The priest allowed as how they wouldn’t.
The old woman cried, “Oh, but I just couldn’t be happy without my precious Foofoo.”
After a bit of thought, the priest said, “If that is true, then Foofoo will be there, because one thing of which we are certain is that we will be happy in Heaven.”
I’ll drink to that. From my volcano-side seat.
Really couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people.
It’ll be blamed on fracking.
