He specifically called it .22 long rifle in the article.
No, he didn’t. Read it closely. The court documents say “.22.” The author makes a a general remark: “Many people do not realize how deadly a .22 is. Many head of big game has been killed with the .22 long rifle cartridge.”
There’s no indication of what actually killed the bears in the article. The only reference to LR is the author’s remark above.
Seriously, a .22 in the hindquarters killed one of the bears? Very poorly written article.
That was dry humor, son.
The following was published by the Lame Cherry blog this morning. It seems appropriate here.

THE PREDATOR MEN
The following will not seem like it matters my children, but it all matters, as your foreparents knew from Asia in being eaten by maneating leopards and tigers to your European relatives being eaten by wolves and bears. There is a reason that the American Government exterminated wolves, bears, coyotes, fox, jaguars and Indians by killing off the bison, and that was those predators ate people and livestock. You can not have a nation if the people are not able to grow food for an expanding population.
[snip]
There is a reason that people removed these predators and there is a reason there has been an effort since the 1970’s to begin breeding them to these dangerous numbers now by the cartel, and why the cartel has been busy banning all poisons and making it a crime for humans to protect their pets, property and children from being murdered by these large predators. It is because this is a process of removing people from the Jeffersonian lands. Polar bears are shown as cuddly, when in reality the Eskimo finds out the polar bear eats Eskimos as readily as it does fur seals as food is food and meat is meat.
Yup
Got that
There were 150 lb. cubs. Three of them.
They WERE killing his chickens, but they were not threatening him—Note the “shot in hind quarters” part.
He killed them because they were killing his chickens.
You can argue that this should not be against the law, but it is....
The answer is simple, REQUIRE the good Judge to take 3 Grizzly Bears into his HOME for 1 month. Then JAIL him for LIFE if he hurts them in any way,
It was a .22 LR.
Famous bow hunter FRED BEAR finally admitted that when he went up against dangerous game with a bow he always carried a .44 Magnum under his coat, “just in case”.
Another famous bow hunter admitted when he shot dangerous game with a bow he had a rifleman standing off camera ready, “just in case”.
Years ago, I read of an African hunter who tried to kill a Cape Buffalo with a spear. the off camera rifleman had to finish the job.
45 years ago I worked with a man who admitted to being a deer poacher. He only used a .22 Long rifle cartridge and only used one shot as with one shot it was hard to pin down the location the shot came from in the woods.
9.3x62. Bear shown life-sized for scale.
I bet the judge would file charges against the guy for being eaten by the bears!
not surprising.
I felt pretty helpless. It was a long 45 mins heh.
I vowed to never head outdoors unarmed again. I also avoid national parks when hiking etc because I can’t carry anything there.
I think National Parks are OK now for concealed carry.
“I think National Parks are OK now for concealed carry.”
They are now under the rules of the state that you are in. If you may conceal carry or open carry under state law, you may do so in the National park that is in that state.
The law is an ass. There are so many laws that you cannot know them all. You have to go to law school to understand the law and still all judges don’t agree on what the law says, nor do all lawyers. Also, why do humans come last?
Spot on. The environmental movement including the animal lovers movement is in reality anti-human.
