Did you know that ‘Islam Has Been Woven Into the Fabric of Our Country Since Its Founding’?

The latest fantasy from the fanciful imagination of Barack Obama:

We hear a lot about the United States' Judeo-Christian heritage, but according to President Obama, "Islam has been woven into the fabric of our country since its founding."

That's what the president told a White House conference on "countering violent extremism" on Wednesday.

Obama has said similar things in the past:

"I also know that Islam has always been a part of America’s story,” Obama said in a June 2009 speech in Cairo, Egypt. "Islam has always been part of America," he said in a 2010 statement marking the start of Ramadan. And in a 2014 statement marking Eid, Obama said the holiday "also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy."

What the hell is he talking about? Then again, maybe he has a point. Islam did touch the United States of America early on in its history- in the form of piracy.

Over two centuries ago, the United States was dragged into the affairs of the Islamic world by an escalating series of unprovoked attacks on Americans by Muslim pirates, the terrorists of the era. These pirates preyed on unsuspecting trade ships. The hulking merchant vessels of the period were no match for the Muslim pirate ships, which were built for speed and lightning strikes. It was simply a fact of life that- over the centuries-took its toll on countless merchant ships and their crews.

Contemporary scholars estimate that over 1 million white Christians from France and Italy to Spain, Holland, Great Britain, the Americas, and even Iceland were captured between 1500 and 1800. The bloodcurdling tales of brutality and horror that awaited Christians unlucky enough to fall victim to the Barbary Pirates were widely known, although sometimes wildly exaggerated.

Muslims were pioneers in the slave trade:

The reality was often much more prosaic, although no less cruel. After seizing the cargo and scuttling the vessel, the pirates would strip the crew of anything deemed remotely valuable. The shaken, naked, terrified crewmen would then be dragged back to North Africa. There, they would be imprisoned and enslaved or, if they were lucky, ransomed back to their sovereign or their family or the company they worked for.

Often enough, however, the victims of these maritime hijackings would languish in fetid prisons, unsure of when, or even if, they would ever be redeemed. Many perished or simply disappeared in the White Slave trade. The only other escape was conversion. Embracing Islam-"turning Turk"-instantly changed one's status and prospects. Indeed, from time to time, some of these victims would prove rather able-bodied adventurers and mercenaries, considering their national identity, their religion, and their foreskins a small price to pay as compared with life as a Muslim pirate in North Africa.

Please do read the while thing.

Then Obama fired off another salvo:

"Generations of Muslim immigrants came here and went to work as farmers and merchants and factory workers, helped to lay railroads and to build up America."

Because you know how important railroads were during the Revolutionary War. He wasn't done yet:

"The first Islamic center in New York City was founded in the 1890s. America's first mosque, this was an interesting fact, was in North Dakota."

Uh, no. It was 1929.

Let's review the Obama version of the birth of our nation with some images. You remember the writing of the Declaration of Independence:

LOL!

I can buy this. A lot of our Founding Fathers had some cursory knowledge of the scourge called islam. Heck, John Smith (of Jamestown fame) was a slave to the Ottoman Empire - before he escaped. So, sure it was 'woven in the fabric' of the National conscience that Islam was an evil plague to be opposed at every turn. They'd be uniformly chagrined at their descendants' flippant disregard for this evil.

Is Obama referring to the 4 muslim slaves who served in the Continental Army for 2 years as a condition for receiving their freedom?

My memory of the story is rough but...

The people of Augusta County VA saw a muslim once... some backwoodsman was out hunting and saw what he thought was a weird animal up a tree.

Turned out to be an emaciated man.

He fed the guy and took him back to Staunton, I think, where a Reverend took him in and they could converse in a mutually understood language. The man was a muslim who had been aboard a vessel captured in the Med by the Spanish, who in turn passed him to a French vessel bound for New Orleans, where the French sold him as a slave to some Indians, who took him north into Shawnee country, or something like that, and he managed to escape but didn’t know where to go, got lost.
He stayed in Staunton for a while, converted to Christianity, wanted to go back to his native land to be with his family, and the people of Augusta helped him as far as they could, securing passage for him, but when he got home he was rejected as an apostate and spent the rest of his days in London.

Chinese on the West of the Rockies, Irish East and through the Rockies, meeting in Utah.

No muzzlemen stopping work five times a day to howl toward the East.

The ONLY moslem I can find, Haji Ali(Hy Jolly), was brought in on the orders of Jeff Davis, secretary of war, to work with camels, in the American west in the 1850s camel experiment at Fort Davis TX.
It was a success, but abandoned during the Civil War when Jeff Davis went on to a more important job as President of the Confederate States.

1. America was discovered because the route tot he far east had to go through slime territory...

2. The Babrbary Pirates indcidents helped spur the creation of the Marines and the Navy.

3. Arguably the civil war WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED if the there was no muslim slave trade to supply slaves tot he south. and we lost over 500,000 people indirectly to islam in the civil war.

So yeah.... all sorts of blood soaked history caused directly or indirectly by ISLAM....

BaraQ hates “European Colonialism” but would have it happened as much in the americas had there been no need for a trade route bypassing the brutal middle east....

Someone REALLY needs to ask him to cite some examples.

The ONLY 2 I can think of is Jefferson’s copy of the Koran, which he actually obtained to “know your enemy”, and the creating of the song that contains the line “from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli”- Tripoli being the MUSLIM Pirates that the USA was essentially at war with.

In one sense, Obama is right.

As the Barbary Pirates were attacking mercantile ships and enslaving the occupants during the 18th century, and were also demanding tribute, President Jefferson didn't want to pay it and sent the little U.S. fleet and its Marines into action. Together with Arab allies and foreign mercenaries, U.S. forces reached "the shores of Tripoli" and subdued its pasha into peace. This task was repeated under President Monroe a decade later, and this time piracy was ended permanently.

Our marines have this phrase "to the shores of Tripoli" in their battle hymn.

This is when Robert Goodloe Harper said, "Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute."

There was a commemorative token coin minted to remember this occurrence, in 1837 and 1841

Do they still teach about the Barbary War in high school history?

In May 1786, Thomas Jefferson, then the U.S. ambassador to France, and John Adams, then the U.S. ambassador to Britain, met in London with Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the resident Tripolitan ambassador, to try to negotiate a peace treaty to protect the United States from the threat of Barbary piracy. These future U.S. presidents questioned the ambassador as to why his government was so hostile to the new American Republic even though America had done nothing to provoke any animosity of any sort. Ambassador Adja answered them, as they reported to the Continental Congress, "that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every muslim who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise. He said, also, that the man who was the first to board a vessel had one slave over and above his share, and that when they sprang to the deck of an enemy's ship, every sailor held a dagger in each hand and a third in his mouth; which usually struck such terror into the foe that they cried out for quarter at once."(London, Victory in Tripoli, pp. 23-24).

This must be the contribution Obama was referring to when he remarked that "Islam has been woven into the fabric of our country since its founding." I just wonder if kids these days understand the hidden darker meaning behind the words.

Sure. All we have to do is go back far enough, and sure enough we’ll find butchery, torture and cruelty. Guess that the Apaches were Muslims - who knew?

Obama probably does believes it, can’t really imagine otherwise because it actually was woven into the fabric of his own beginning. He admits that much. And in his circle, they is no one to advise him differently. Does anyone really believe he has studied American history?

Of course he believes it. His daddy and step-daddy taught him this from the time he could walk. His mother and grandparents taught him to hate America. That sums up his early childhood education...
