A Conservative America

As Republicans decide who will lead them in 2016, surely the best chance of nominating a winner is to nominate a conservative.

Our nation needs a peaceful and constitutional conservative revolution. We should take strength from this persistent fact in virtually all polling done by every major polling organization over the last twenty years: conservatives dramatically outnumber liberals in America.

The latest evidence of this is found in a Gallup Poll published on February 6, 2015 – Ronald Reagan’s birthday – which measured state by state the breakdown of conservatives, moderates and liberals. Gallup has published this sort of poll on a regular basis since 2008. What did the 2015 poll show? Conservatives outnumber liberals in 47 out of the 50 states. Only Hawaii, Vermont and Massachusetts have more liberals than conservatives, although even in these three states the liberal advantage over conservatives is very slight.

A big problem with this idea is that conservatives come in many “flavors”, and some of these are mutually exclusive of others. Making the problem worse is that there are many “faux conservatives”, who are conservative only so far as they can use conservatives to give them power. Once in office, they behave like liberals.

At the head of the list of faux conservatives are the “Whig Republicans”, who embrace the ideas of the old Whig party, or more recently, Calvin Coolidge, who said “The business of America is business”.

The Whig party failed because it could not truly oppose slavery, them seeing slavery as “good for business”, though the rank and file strongly opposed it. And today, these are what we call RINOs, and the GOP-e, having taken over the party leadership. They will support internationalism, because it is good for the multinationals that dominate the Chamber of Commerce. But these are not patriotic corporations. They are loyal only to the bottom line.

And yet these Republicans have the gall to call themselves “conservatives”. They do not grasp the concept that unique loyalty to corporations is not conservative, and a one-world corporate state is just as loathsome as is a one-world socialist state.

In any event, the flavors of real conservatives can be subdivided as well, though there is often overlap.

For example, “status quo” conservatives are people who do not want dramatic change in any direction, and they provide inertia to resist change away from liberalism and gigantic government. Their attitude is whatever exists right now is probably better than if we try to make America more conservative in grand strokes.

“Religious” conservatives tend to dominate on moral issues, seeing with considerable justification the harm immorality has inflicted on countless people.

“Law and Order and Military” conservatives see the primary purpose of government is to protect our nation from enemies both foreign and domestic. Government tends to support what they demand, by increasing its police and military power, but they fail in providing better protection against our enemies.

“Patriotic business and economics” conservatives. These are the legitimately pro-business conservatives, who are often manipulated by the faux conservatives. They are the ones determine to reduce government regulations that inhibit business. At the same time they resent open borders, unrestricted importation of working foreigners, outsourcing of jobs, terribly imbalanced balance of trade, and runaway deficits.

There are other conservative groups as well.

The last time we ran a conservative, we only won forty-nine of the fifty-seven states.

Won’t do that again, now will we, RINOs??
