Socialists of all stripes are optimists. About mankind's ability to be something else; about their own moral and intellectual superiority to the rest of us; about how much they are loved by the toiling masses whose sufferings they attempt to alleviate by taxing them into poverty.
Now me, I am a pessimist about such things. Pessimism is not a truly enjoyable mindset. It does have one good thing going for it, though. You are never disappointed. You are very seldom surprised, but when you are, it is always pleasantly.
