America Is Being Transformed Into Brazil

Our dishwasher broke just after Christmas. The timer stopped working, and a new one costs about $100. My wife suggested that since the dishwasher is nineteen years old, we should buy a new one. Up until now it was working very quietly and efficiently, washing and drying a full load in about an hour.

We visited the appliance shop where we had recently purchased a new clothes washing machine a few months earlier. I mentioned to the salesman that our new washer was very slow, taking nearly two hours to finish a large load compared to our old one, which took about 35 minutes. With a bright smile, he explained that that was because of the new federal energy efficiency standards for clothes washers enacted by the Obama administration’s Department of Energy in May 2012.

21,000 new regulations have been enacted under Obama, and 2,375 are scheduled so far for 2015. Congress does not have the power to stop this avalanche, and can do very little to slow it down.

I actually found and grabbed some 100 watt incandescent light bulbs at the Dollar Tree store the other day, made in China of course, but the packaging was dated 2014; I thought the manufacturing of these alleged planet destroying devices had been outlawed a few years back.

Stop this madness. When you are driving and see a red light, you know you must stop. This government does not seem to know that. With over 20,000 new regulations since the feckless one took over, the government is plowing through an eight lane intersection on a red light, totally oblivious to the consequences. Stop this madness!!!!

“I thought the manufacturing of these alleged planet destroying devices had been outlawed a few years back.”

No, the manufacture was outlawed in the USA. If they were made in China..... ;-)

Wait until you check out the prices of the new LED bulbs.

There are ways around it. My favorite is selling them as “heat sources”, turns out there’s nothing even remotely illegal about a heat source that “happens” give off 100 watts of light.

They are expensive but getting cheaper.
If they really last as long as they are rated, it is not a bad deal. And it is kinda nice to get 60 watts of light for 10 watts. I am slowly converting my home over to LED.

The New World Order is everywhere! Exactly the same thing is happening over in Europe. From today's Daily Mail:

"Now Europe comes for the Sunday roast: Brussels to impose maximum power limit on all new gas and electric ovens from next month."

The whole article is worth reading to see restrictions in things like hair driers etc.:

Well, you did better than I did. I bought a hundred 100 watt incandescent bulbs right before I thought they were being outlawed and then the government reversed itself. I still use the bulbs, especially in the greenhouse in the winter for heat, some in the house but also in the sheds, and the two barns. I still have way more than I can use for years.

My experience with the LEDs is good. More expensive but they have lasted forever. Better light too.

The problem with saving “billions on energy bills” is that the more electricity we save the higher the electric rate gets.
I may be saving electricity with my new crappy Fridge and washer but my rates here in MA are going up 35% this year, that does not include the projected 50% rate hike once they start building the 100 Renewable, free energy windmills in the water off of Cape Cod.
F these moonbats.

I got a couple of boxes of incandescent bulbs too. I bought a whole bunch of whatever I could find before they started disappearing.

I get a laugh out of the “they’ll last YEARS!” lie.

Well, sort of lie.

The LED will last a long time but don’t forget the voltage has to be stepped down (120V to ~5V) and made into DC (V.S. AC). That is the failure point; one bad surge (we get ‘em all the time) and the transformer is dead or the component that does the AC->DC conversion burns out.

It isn’t the LED that’s expensive, it is all the support to make it light up which is also the weak link.

"Now Europe comes for the Sunday roast: Brussels to impose maximum power limit on all new gas and electric ovens from next month."

I had to replace the glow bar in a gas range a while back. The part is between $75 and $90 and consumes 800 watts ALL THE TIME THE OVEN IS ON.

I replaced the range with one that uses NO glow bar and the oven can be match-lit during power failures. It uses a sparker that ignites a pilot which warms a thermocouple to turn the flow of gas on. It may sound like a kludge, but it works. Reliably.

HOORAH for regulations. How wles would the unemployable keep employed?

I spend a lot of time in Germany (Dresden). They are absolute nuts for anything “green” “climate friendly” “eco” etc... If you want to wash a small load of clothes in your washer prepare to wait at least 2 1/2 hours for a wash and another 2 for a dry. Imagine trying to wash all your clothes with 2 tablespoons of water. That’s what they try to do in Germany. I have a wonderful oversize washer and dryer in my home here. I can have a huge load of wash done in about 1 1/2 hour.

And who needs legislation and elections when you can just regulate for all eternity.

“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers — and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system.”
