Liberty Briefing ^ | 12/18/2014 | Jeff Siegel

On the rare occasion I find myself in agreement with President Obama, I get nervous.

It just feels like a setup. Like someone's going to pull the rug out from under me at any moment.

But right now, I have to admit, I was very pleased to hear the news that the U.S. and Cuba are moving to normalize relations.

I would not be against normalization except that it is by this guy without any input from Congress.

I'm sick and tired of Obama treating our friends like or enemies, and our enemies like our friends.

This is but another example of that.

That’s pretty naïve. obozo said it’s “for the people”.....Is he serious?

Castro is Saddam with good cigars and baseball. The people of Cuba gain nothing by our "normalizing" relations. The Castro Regime will keep doing what they have been doing and the masses will continue to suffer.

We should have done this 40 years ago. I just hate to see Obutt get the credit for it.

Your position is antithetical to conservative values. Even your hero Rick Perry agrees, negotiating with communist dictators is not in the US's best interest.

Take heart; Patrick Leahy and Charlie Rangel agree with you, though.

"No one lights a lamp and then hides it or puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house." Luke 11:33

We need to broadcast American exceptionalism to all enslaved people.

As it stands this rewards Castro for continued bad behavior.

the embargo was a democRat program that has failed for 50 years. Why continue? Will it work next year? Another 50 years?

They stole billions of dollars of US-owned assets without paying back so much as a single red cent.

And these guys are still really mad about it:

Talk about bass-ackwards. (L) are all for personal responsibility. How is that NOT believing in accountability?

I don’t believe Dumbo has a leg to stand on, but I don’t hear the same complaints over the last 40 yrs. w/ Nixon’s ‘opening’ of China (how much more freedom do the Chinese have? I’m not talking the gov’t officials or $$/biz/etc.).

Following your logic; we should lift the sanctions against Iran. They have not altered Iran's pursuit of Nuclear weapons. Why continue? Will it work next year? Another 50 years?

And you are forgetting the most important fact of all: If Obozo supports it, it must be wrong and not in the best interest of the American people

Following your logic; we should lift the sanctions against Iran.

Yes. Sanctions have never worked. They have been in place against Cuba for 50 years without bringing down Fidel Castro. Some 13 years of sanctions on Iraq failed to topple Saddam Hussein. After 14 years of US sanctions the military regime remains in Burma. Decades of sanctions on Iran have brought no regime change nor, most recently, persuaded Tehran to abandon its uranium enrichment programme

Open Iran to trade. Fund insurgent groups.

They are all for practical responsibility but they ignore moral accountability.

The libertarian’s example of practical responsibility would include making absolutely certain your wife doesn’t find out about your affair, that way “nobody gets hurt.”

It’s really a shame we can’t trade the people here wanting to ‘open op’ communist dictatorships for the lives of the Americans those dictatorships killed. Because that would be my idea of fair trade.
