This person is dealing with a Math Professor, who have very little sympathy for anyone NOT a Math Professor! Some of my best memories from college was hearing some whiny student ask for or expect some additional consideration and then listening to the Prof explain the facts of life to them.
One of my all time favorites was accusing them of being, or encouraging them to change their major to Hotel/Motel/ Restaurant Management!
