We Thought We Were Free (Paraphrased from Milton Mayer)
Diary of an Autodidact ^ | 11-26-2012 | Milton Mayer

Posted on 12/15/2014 9:55:49 PM PST by INVAR

And one day, too late, your principles, if you were ever sensible of them, all rush upon you. The burden of self-deception has grown too heavy, and some minor incident...collapses it all at once, and you see that everything, everything has changed and changed completely under your nose.

The world you live in - your nation, your people - is not the world you were born in at all. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed.

Now you life in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves; when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed.

And this is how it happens. The form is embraced rather than the spirit. The past is worshiped along with the “idea,” and people and reality become casualties in the process. And, as the author aptly notes, this isn’t a German problem, it is a human problem. This isn’t them. It’s us. It’s me, and it’s you.

Well the post I replied to was where you talk down our desire to have a conservative nominated for 2016.

We want a conservative, namely Ted Cruz, and you criticize this. Sort of a red flag, the way I see it.

Well the post I replied to was where you talk down our desire to have a conservative nominated for 2016.

I did no such thing.

I was stating an absolute fact about the Ruling Class Oligarchy's budget atrocity that makes sure that our desire to have a Conservative nominee for the presidency, is virtually impossible within the GOP.

Why do you think McConnell increased the lawful limit of corporate donations to his PACs by a thousandfold???

If Practicing Insanity by voting within a corrupted party and system is the definition of the 'spirit of liberty', I will suggest, you are seriously deluded.

The Spirit of Liberty has NOTHING to do with party, NOTHING to do with supporting a system that has been corrupted beyond repair via civil means.

A 'spirit of liberty' is one that recognizes the truth of the battleground it exists upon. It refuses to be limited by false choices, false hope and looks to avenues outside of the existing corrupt structure to establish it's happiness.

Bashing people pointing out the truth most do not want to look at is not from a spirit of liberty, but a spirit of fear and subjugation that is confined to faith in the forms of the past that no longer exist.

You’re overthinking this thing bro.

Lots of people want to stop Ted Cruz from becoming president. Try not to be one of them.

This thread IS NOT ABOUT the candidacy (or not) of Ted Cruz.

This thread is about understanding history’s lesson about a how easily and unaware a people are conquered by a tyranny from within, while thinking they are still free because the forms are still there, while the substance has been fundamentally transformed.

Your replies help illustrate this fact of history and human nature with absolute clarity.

As if electing the next president is going to save liberty from where we have already arrived.

Putting faith in a hoped-for monarch or any man vaunted as a savior, is as ignorant and stupid as those who agree with the defacto dictatorship we now have.

You sure have a lot to say, but you never really make a concise point.

“Lots of people want to stop Ted Cruz from becoming president. Try not to be one of them.”

Ted Cruz isn’t going to be president. The GOP will torpedo him before they let that happen.

Obviously history and logic go over your head and/or you choose to remain hideously ignorant.

You are one of those who thinks they are free.

“You sure have a lot to say, but you never really make a concise point.”

I thought the point was pretty right on target.
The system is corrupted and like it or not the system is bigger, stronger, and has no time constraints that any one man or even group of men have.

Both parties serve the system which in turn serves the people with the money who own the system.

Your function now is to buy things, to walk in straight and evenly paced line, and do what you’re told.

IF you don’t do what you’re told, a law will be passed and you’ll either be prosecuted or fined and feed into the stone age.

Every Fall we used to rake our yard and burn the leaves. Then you couldn’t burn in the city limits, then you couldn’t smoke in a restaurant in the city limits, then you couldn’t smoke in a bar in the city limits and there’s a push to ban smoking anywhere outside in some cities.

It was always against the law to abuse your kids, then spank your kids, then correct your kids and now your kids can’t play outside in the yard without 2 chaperones a helmet and shinguards.

We didn’t get here overnight. It took generations and sadly there will be no turning back.

We still have freedom of sorts but the things you were taught in school about America, well that was just a kids story to get you to keep walking in that straight line.

Haha. More probably you’re just a “My team right or wrong” guy who thinks outrage is the same power or a workable plan.

I never thought supporting Ted Cruz for President in 2016 would cause this kind of hysterics in people.

“I never thought supporting Ted Cruz for President in 2016 would cause this kind of hysterics in people.”

Not sure what hysteria you’re referring to. Unless you don’t know what that word means.

I think Ted Cruz would make a fine president. He won’t really be able to change anything as he’s just one man fighting against an entrenched well funded well established corrupt system.

I remember when GWB was the great hope here. The system broke him too.
In the end, the elected ones are going to do what their paymasters tell them to do.

It’s how reality works. it’s not like in video games.

“So to make you happy I have to stop supporting Ted Cruz?”

What the hell are you talking about? I never said to support or not support whoever you like.

I said it’s not going to make that much of a difference, and it’s not.
I also said Cruz won’t be president and he won’t because the PTB find him to be a nuisance.
Not a threat, a nuisance.

This thread IS NOT ABOUT Ted Cruz for president.

It's about people like you who think they are free, living in a growing tyranny from within, who ignore reality and go berserk because they insist voting for a man as their personal savior to high office, is going to stop what we have already been fundamentally transformed into.

So Ted Cruz will never be President, and he’s not a threat to the establishment.

I read you loud and clear.

Just to make sure I understand you—what you’re saying is, I can do whatever I want as long as I don’t vote for Ted Cruz?

Probably Ted Cruz will not be president. Should he become president, he’s not going to change the status quo. The PTB won’t tolerate that.

He won’t be a threat to the establishment because before he could win they would own him.

Somebody has to fund those campaigns.

You forget what the establishment fears most—the people.

This has been the case for all governments, from the beginning of history. It’s the reason they can’t show what they truly are.

“You forget what the establishment fears most—the people.”

Where have you been?
The establishment doesn’t fear the people.

The establishment owns the media, the people, and the government.

As long as the wifi stays on, and there’s NFL on Sunday.
The people not only won’t care, they won’t even notice.

If you’re expecting some mass iphanie from the people you’re going to be pretty disappointed.
