Wait just a minute there! We aren’t supposed to feel sorry for this guy...we’re all RACISTS according to the ‘Brownies’, and he’s a person of color!

Maybe it would not have been so bad if during the riots he stood in front of his store and handed out free purple drank and skittles. (emphasis on MAYBE)

Exactly. Clean out the store and restock it entirely with bath salts and Gatorade.

What if he and all his brothers, cousins, sons and nephews had gotten long guns and camped out in the store instead. Nothing restores civil order as fast as a 9mm under the counter.

Can he sue the city or state for being negligent in deciding not to protect his business?

That would definitely remove the “Maybe” from the equation.

I’ll bet the rioters would just peacefully walk on by a Korean owned business for that very reason, they set a precedent.

My guess is he was afraid of the persecution to follow if he defended his property. The DA is a rat and while he may not have gone after an agent of the state, you can bet he would attack a citizen who defends himself with full zeal.

On top of that who knows what kind of word the "Just-us" department was putting out to the business owners considering they basically told the cops to stand down.

Not successfully and he would never find a lawyer who would take it on a contingency basis.

Is the local or state government required to protect/prevent harm? Or just prosecute those that break the law?

It would have been even better if he’d stood in front of his store and handed out double ought buckshot.

“Nothing restores civil order as fast as a 9mm under the counter.”
The true quote, “Nothing puts fear into the heart of a robber like the sound of the slide being racked on a pump shotgun”. 9mm under the counter? Not so much,;-)

I suspect he would have lost a lot of customers doing that. He was not even going to report the theft in the first place, and only reluctantly cooperated when someone else did. It’s my belief he knows his clientele, and that defending the place would have backfired.

Punished by the community for serving the community no one wants to invest in, then we will here we must rebuild as though we were the cause of the destruction of thier community and then we will hear we demand that businesses invest in our community and if you dont we will label you as racist. Enjoy the smell of burning garbage every morning, where are you going to shop for food? where will you buy clothes, get your car serviced, do your hair, get some fast food. What they have created is a sh## where you eat mindset that seems to be ok

Long Story: the local grocery store in Queens was originally owned by an Italian family. As the neighborhood changed they were repeatedly and regularly robbed at gunpoint. The Police told them to get a gun. They hired an ancient armed black security guard. Within a week he shot a local punk in the ankle, who was harassing him, but not robbing the store.

They gave up and sold out to a Lebanese family. The Lebanese made sure that everyone knew they were armed. All the male family members were armed, with 9mm under each counter. Robberies stopped.
