Oliver Friedfeld and his roommate were mugged last weekend. They were forced to the ground and their valuables were taken from them. In response, Friedfeld has blamed himself because he is a member of the middle class.
Writing in Georgetown University's “The Hoya,” Friedfeld penned an article detailing the robbery called “I was Mugged, And I Understand Why.” In it, he attributed his mugging to being a member of the middle class, instead of to the people who mugged him.
...And the fact that he comes “from a solidly middle-class family” means that Friedfeld should be a target of muggings, according to him. He then wonders aloud, “Who am I to stand from my perch of privilege... to condemn these young men as 'thugs?'”
In fact, the middle class is to blame for crimes of this nature, he writes: “If we ever want opportunistic crime to end, we should look at ourselves first... When we play along with a system that fuels this kind of desperation, we can’t be surprised when we’re touched by it. ”
Friedfeld concludes that members of the middle class simply need to get over their fear of being mugged because we have it good. “We should get comfortable with sporadic muggings and break-ins. I can hardly blame them. The cards are all in our hands, and we’re not playing them. “

They were mugged because it is DC and criminals have learned that all victims are unarmed. I would love to see off duty cops change that perception, but they’d end up shooting a “sweet little boy” with Skittles, just because he was attempting to commit murder, and then we’d have more riots (worth it to get rid of the thugs, but we’d also have more Al Sharpton speeches, and that’s torture.)

I make it a point to turn around when I walk through parking lots. I time it so that a if a runner starts from the closest concealed place I’ll still have time to draw. Most likely, the one time it happens I will not have timed it right. But I am aware and ready. I practice once a quarter. I’m death on paper and cans. Don’t know about people yet. I also suspect that if they shoot back it will throw off my aim.
Once while crossing a lot in a bad part of town a wino started towards me, probably looking for change. I pointed my finger at him and shook my head no. He immediately turned around. So, I have the intimidating look down pat.
He appears to be making an assumption that these muggers are only going after middle class (and above?) victims. Thugs seldom make such distinctions, after all, if a 5 minute confrontation gets the last $20 from a disabled vet, anyone think they are going to give it back?
It would be a lovely dream if this ‘enlightened’ child were called upon to defend his concepts in a logic class but given that this is Georgetown, it is unlikely. Instead he will be celebrated and perhaps we can look for his picture (posted in the local hangout as a future contributor at low risk!)

The Bible commands “thou shall not steal” and “thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s wife or possession.” No exemptions based on economic conditions. White Guilt Boy may be fine with getting mugged, but unrepentant robbers will answer to the Lord for their deeds.
