The replacement will be Gregg Harper or a Barbour.

Ie, just like Cochran only way younger and likely to have the seat for 40+ years or more.

He then goes on to explain the flaws in this choice. It is commonly rumored that Thad Cochran will retire and not complete his next term, so a replacement would be appointed by Governor Phil Bryant. What we would get in that case is another RINO like Cochran, except younger, and he would be much harder to defeat than a newbie Democrat like Travis Childers.

If Childers is elected it is for a full 6 year term. If Cochran is elected and resigns or dies, the person appointed to replace him will serve until the next general election (2016) when there will be an election to fill out the remainder of his term. With the possibility of Cochran or his replacement for two years or Childers for a certain six years, I would opt for Cochran.

Given the strength of conservatives shown in the primary, it should be possible to work with the state legislature to amend the election laws to make a closed primary system and prevent this problem from happening again. From an individual standpoint, I would rather win in the long run than get even in the short term.

The same pubbie party insiders who’ve done this in the primary are the very ones who have stated they’re opposed to closing the primary.

(Gosh, I wonder why...maybe because they tacitly acknowledge their real constituents are dims?)

Agreed...

If the GOPe really wanted to have this seat they could have made thad bow out. McDaniel would have won the general and conservatives would not have the white hot hatred they do now.

All they had to do to avoid making their base think of them as a HATED enemy, is give us Thads political head and shut turtle boy Mitch’s beak.

They wouldn’t do it... They wouldn’t give us the head of the guy who partnered with DEMOCRATS (socialists) to commit VOTE FRAUD in a republican PRIMARY that he knew he was going to lose. Nor would they put a straight jacket on Mitch. For F—k’s sake, he ENABLED Thad to commit vote fraud against McDaniel! These acts are UNFORGIVABLE!

They wouldn’t do it... and now they have started a war with their base that will see the party and possibly the country burned to the ground. There will be no peace until, at the very least, these two are gone. They cant come back from what they have done and I can GUARANTEE you that we would rather sit a lousy ass democrat in that seat for 6 years than one of these two bastards.

Congratulations GOPe... One way or another you WILL be consumed by the rage you instilled in the base. YOU are the primary targets now. THAT will NOT change! no matter how many internet trolls you send out to voice the same old tired B.S.

Heck, my senator is Cornyn and I didn’t vote for him, in part, because he was a party to what happened in Mississippi.

No dilemma for me AT ALL.

This is bullshit logic...

If they intended to give the position to McDaniel if/when Thad finally dies of old age they wouldn’t have condoned and funded the VOTE FRAUD that it took to beat him in the first place.

GOPe internet minions are just so incredibly stupid...

The only way to deal with these RINO’s is to defeat them.

I will never, not ever, vote for a RINO!

“Thad Cochran does NOT deserve to be “rewarded” for his—possibly criminal—conduct in the primary run-off.”

You’re right, cochran, his campaign, the barbours, the RNSC, the RNC nor the Mississippi gop should be rewarded. There will be NO good outcome to this race as it has been tainted by those I mentioned above. I will not vote and give credence to a non-descript third party. I will not vote for a self-described “conservative” democrat, first there’s no such thing as a Conservative democrat using Conservative as it’s defined by Conservatives. A democrat who voted FOR “The Food Safety Act” and who couldn’t “make up his mind” on obamacare until they had the votes to pass it and his wasn’t needed, then he heroically steps up and votes against it hoping to hold a seat for democrats in a very Conservative district. childers is a snake but if he wins he’s likely to be re-elected and sit there voting somewhat conservative until the democrats really need his vote, like manchin. I will NOT vote for thad cochran, I’m still bothered by the knife wound in my back. I’m writing in Chris Mcdaniel. I know it won’t be counted but it will show as a NO vote on the Senate race, more voters than votes in that race. Those who count the votes, the election workers and the Republican and democrat party officials will be aware of exactly what’s happening. If there were to be a silver lining or good outcome to this election is that if cochran wins and the Mississippi Republican party realizes the damage they’ve wrought and works to repair it and our governor decides to NOT appoint himself to the seat when cochran quits and retires within two years and I believe he will. If the Governor would appoint a bonafide Conservative that’s not in haley barbour’s pocket, this could possibly but probably not work out. I vote in DeSoto County, in the primary we gave McDaniel 63% of the vote, in the runoff, with a sizeable increase in turnout over the primary, we gave McDaniel 70% of the vote. This is a strong Republican county and I believe the gop is not going to be pleased with the outcome although I do believe cochran will carry it. I believe the turnout will be light for a federal election and the winning margin by a Republican at the top of the ticket, cochran, will be smaller.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Thank you for posting this Gina. I've been wondering what was happening in MS. I hope all of Chris McDaniel's supporters vote for Travis Childers. Childers is an old-school, Truman-style, Southern Democrat. (Yes, there are still a few of them around.) Childers is Pro-Life, Pro-Second Amendment, ANTI-Same Sex Marriage and ANTI-Amnesty. If Cochran wins, he will serve for six-months or a year and then resign his Senate seat. Haley Barbour will then make sure that one of his nephews gets appointed to that vacancy.

NEVER FORGET MISSISSIPPI! NEVER! NEVER! NEVER!

Wow! I said basically the same thing before I read your Post #9. The whole plan here was for Thad to run - win - resign. Then Haley Barbour gets his nephew appointed to that seat.

Likely Thad will resign for medical reasons shortly and another Republican will be appointed awaiting a new election.

The appointee could be McDaniels

Oh, come on X-spurt. You know better than that. The plan from the beginning was for Thad to win and resign 6 months later and Haley “Boss Hog” Barbour will get his nephew appointed to that seat.

If I lived in MS, I’d vote for the Conservative Dem, Travis Childers (Pro-Life, Pro-Second Amendment, ANTI: Same/Sex marriage, ANTI-Amnesty). The best thing that could happen is that ol’ Thad go on home to that Senate Cloak room in the sky before Nov. 4.

Then he needs to make that a promise and the promise has to exclude Barbor associates.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

OMGoodness Paladin. That would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. Who could trust the word of any politician; especially a low-life, scumbag, p.o.s. like Thad Cochran? From your screen name, I know that you’re not young enough to be naive. Perhaps you are just a “forgiving” person. Me?..... I’m one vindictive a-hole.

I, and the 5 votes in my sphere of influence, will be voting for Childers. It will be wholly unfamiliar to us voting for a Democrat but you can’t stab us in the back and walk away scot free.

I'm generally OK with voting in some weak sisters from the GOP if only to strengthen the voices of the GOP's actual conservatives.

But screw Cochran. I wouldn't vote for him with a gun to my head. He wants to call conservatives racists and pay people to vote illegally for him, he can eff off. Majorities be damned.
