India’s Sanitation Problem

Diarrheal diseases kill 700,000 children in India every year

Nationwide, at least two-thirds of India’s 1.2 billion people still defecate in the open, and many do not understand the dire public health consequences. Diarrheal diseases kill 700,000 children in India every year while also contributing to widespread malnutrition and childhood growth stunting, as well as diseases like typhoid and cholera. (1)

In an attempt to improve upon this situation, Indian leaders are taking on the taboo of public hygiene, one of the country’s great problems. Narendra Modi, India’s prime minister, says building toilets is a priority over temples. His finance minister, Arun Jaitley, set a goal of ending defecating in the open by 2019. That will be 150 years since the birth of Mohandas Gandhi, who said good sanitation was more important than independence. (2)

LOL. There is nothing educational in those pictures. Nobody on this forum is dumb enough not to know what human suffering is.

You have been repeatedly posting those pictures... and from a chinese site no less. Do you think that human suffering cannot make its visitation on you because of your "beliefs, values, and principles" and that you live in a developed nation?

You seem to get jollies from looking at people in dire situations, while hiding behind a facade of patriotism and high mindedness.

And you know one thing that makes this country great? There are a lot of good christian men and women in this country who have compassion on those who are suffering and in pain, even those far away in other lands. They generously give of their time and resources to help, and even go to places like West Africa, putting their own lives at risk, to help people who are in dire need of mercy and grace.

That is an American value.

They’re not looking real “miserable”, probably because that’s normal to them...

I am reminded, in graduate school, back when it was discovered that Alaskan Indians shared DNA with the Chinese (which was being used to ascertain ancient migration routes). I starting talking to my meek, mild mannered, Chinese office-mate and mentioned this story. I've never seen him become so angry, in denouncing the story as a pack of lies. There was absolutely no way that those savages shared any DNA with the ennobled Chinese. That was his story and he stuck to it.

"...ennobled Chinese." So much for "meek and mild mannered."
Showed a little bit of "savage" himself.
THANKS for the story.

You apparently have not been to Pakistan.

Lol. The Pakistanis are Indians-turned Muslim. That's all. Same racial stock. They fought a civil war over that change of faith, which is something I would wish on NO ONE.

India WAS cleaner than China. I know that it's hard to believe, but it is true.

True story.
When I was working in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, I used to complain to my Muslim boss that the Saudi men STANK of body odor in the afternoon.
He said that he knew, but that Muslim men wore no deodorant because it was perfumed and Muslim men wore no scent.

So I high-tailed it down to the Commissary, bought a can of ARRID unscented deodorant, brought it back to the office and showed my boss.

He took the can, spread the news, so to speak, though not in front of me, and FROM THEN ON, the Saudi men ceased to annoy me with their afternoon B.O. SUCCESS.

Apparently ARRID unscented deodorant never reached Pakistan.
*****Send'em a box of the stuff, just to give'em a "hint."

That is an American value.

It's also a Christian value.

By 1982, when the King of Saudi Arabia had bought out all the petroleum and natural gas for himself, to keep the wealty and powerful Saudi families from fighting over it, he began making $1 billion U.S. dollars every two and a half days.

The King GIVES away billions in charity every year. Apparently "charity" is one of the "pillars of Islam."

My point: charity isn't just American or Christian. I know it's anathema to say anything positive about Islam on this site but I do know that about that particular generosity because I was there to witness it and read about if from other countries. He even gave to CHRISTIAN countries.

That charity was started by King Fahd, "fat Fahd," as he was called by us Aramcons back then. His half-brother rules the Kingdom now.

Abdullah ibn Abdilazīz--Arabic: عَبدُٱللهِ ٱبنُ عبدِ العزيزِ‎ ʻAbdullāh ibnu ʻAbdilʻAzīz, Najdi Arabic pronunciation: [ʢæbˈdɑɫɫɐ ɪbn ˈʢæbdæl ʢæˈziːz ʔæːl sʢuːd], born 1 August 1924, is the King of Saudi Arabia.

He ascended to the throne on 1 August 2005 upon the death of his half-brother, King Fahd. According to Forbes, Abdullah is among the world's most powerful people ranked 8th globally, making him the most powerful Muslim.

That is there is nothing educational about seeing such pictures is simply your bare opinion, as is that one must be dumb to gain any education from such a rare collection. Apparently encyclopedias should be all text less they appear to be getting a kick out of negative images .

You have been repeatedly posting those pictures...

Meaning TMK i posted one thread and the link 2 or 3 times.

. Do you think that human suffering cannot make its visitation on you because of your "beliefs, values, and principles" and that you live in a developed nation?

I certainly do think it can, whether you believe me or not. Read the book of Job. But i also think that different foundational "beliefs, values, and principles," along with other factors, result in different types of government, economy and things such as heath standards.

You seem to get jollies from looking at people in dire situations, while hiding behind a facade of patriotism and high mindedness.

That again is simply your erroneous opinion, and is as absurd as saying "you seem to get jollies from criticizing the images of people in dire situations, while hiding behind a facade of high mindedness."

The fact is that I think we do not appreciate things as we should, and that everyone, esp. teens, should also see pictures of Hitlers death camps, and maybe "Escape from Sobibor," and "A Nation Adrift " so at least it may help them to appreciate the blessings we have and the foundation for them, and see the powers that are at work that destroy them.

However, as it seems all you can do is complain about negative images and falsely attribute motive, spending more time attempting reason with you is hardly warranted.

Indeed, and i believe in supporting such work, and they often send us pictures of the suffering souls they help. But i do not think they are getting jollies from doing so. Yet you may have your opinion.

No, you are not telling ground reality, you are talking right out of your ass.

The muzzies were killing people, expelling Hindus from E and W Pakistan, and of course there are still people who try to redirect blame onto, for example, Gandhi. That is all you appear to be doing.

Still nothing about Gandhi’s favoring the caliphate — he didn’t, and it’s ludicrous to claim that he did.

He was against partition. And most importantly, he wasn’t in an office. He was an unarmed pacifist and moral leader, and an immoral cretin and coward shot him to death.

I cannot imagine trying to provide reliable water/sewer (and indoor plumbing) for 1.2 billion people. I don’t know if enough water exists for that to happen. Diverting/trapping that much water would almost certainly alter weather patterns.

Let me rephrase that from “alter weather patterns” to “change the ecology of the region.”
