The article reports that members of the gun cub went to a restaurant and ate while openly carrying their guns... next to a group of police officers. Nothing happened.
Gallagher says he's not accusing every white person who buys a gun of being a racist; he's accusing them of being human, of unconsciously absorbing stereotypical attitudes about black men and violence that are as old as America itself.This, in spite of massive collusion in the old media to downplay black participation in crime, decades old pressure in the entertainment media *not* to portray black people as criminals, and the strong overportraying of white men in movies as the most common violent criminals. Now that all these inner city gun prohibition laws have been found unconstitutional, hopefully more average, law-abiding blacks will buy guns. The criminals already have them. If others had them, crime in the cities probably would go down.
One group is a racist hate group, the other group is concerned about the rights of all Americans, go figure that some people just won’t take Political Correctness at face value.
Murder in Detroit alone is down 13% from last year. Sexual assault is down 6%. Robbery is down 25%. Aggravated assault is up 2%.
Detroit is an open carry stand your ground city with a police chief who supports self defense.

Actually we need WAY more black gun owners, you know, the vast majority of blacks who are hard-working and law-abiding, just like everyone else. Those folks especially need to be armed to protect themselves from their neighborhood feral drug gangs.

That is what all the talk about “white privilege” amounts to.
More law abiding blacks are buying firearms and they oppose restrictive gun laws. In Houston, a group is giving away free shotguns and training to residents in the 5th ward. The recipients are typically elderly black women, grandmothers and they report that the program has drastically reduced violent crimes in da ‘hood.
Personally, I'll steer clear of a black panther spewing race hate while sporting an AR15 in public.
People are frightened of the new and novel, as was seen with the first of the open carry demonstrations. But they got over the novelty very quickly and relaxed.
The same, exact rule applies to open and concealed carry by black people. Because black people are not evenly distributed across the US, in many places, for example Arizona, only 4%, or 4 in 100 people are black, so they are “novelties”, and stand out.
So a black person with a gun is a “double novelty”, an intellectual and emotional minor obstacle to be overcome. But again, the best way to do this is with familiarity.
The fastest way to do this is for black open carriers to be encouraged “at first” to open carry in a group with white people open carrying. Of course, with Hispanics and Asians welcomed as well.
This very quickly dispenses any racial issues, and because open carriers are such orderly people, it creates a good association, that the black open carriers are “good guys”, like typically are black policemen. Good citizens not to be feared.
Because of bad associations white people have with misbehaved black people, it will take a lot of exposure for them to be relaxed around armed black people. So, “as insurance”, black open carriers need a lot of exposure throughout their community, far more so than white open carriers.
It’s a big responsibility to almost always *have* to be armed when in public, but it’s the job of the “icebreaker” to be out in front.

The population of Detroit is decreasing.
IIRC, a number of years ago at a TEA Party rally in AZ(?), there was a black man carrying an AR. He was one of the first at such events to carry a long gun.
