Arizona Football Coach Suspended for Praying with Team

An Arizona high school football coach was suspended for two games last week for praying with his team.

The problem, according to the school, arose after their coach, Tom Brittain, prayed with his team. This is despite the fact that the school, Tempe Preparatory Academy, is state-funded.

Freedom of religion only goes so far, according to the school's administration. "He is a man who likes to pray and I don't object to that," said headmaster of the school Dr. David Baum. That said, "he can't do that with our students," Dr. Baum stated bluntly.

After a win the previous week, Mr. Brittain asked students to join him in a prayer celebrating the hard-fought victory. That is a punishable offense, according to Dr. Baum, who believes that by suspending Mr. Brittain, that he has preserved students' freedom of religion.

"He directed students to lead a prayer and he joined the students in that prayer and did so in view of everyone," Dr. Baum explained. "I think I preserved the religious freedom of our students, who have to have the liberty to be able to practice or not practice their religion on our campus, without interference by adults."

This is a violation of his constitutional rights. He should sue.

If his religion involved passing out condoms, he’d be OK.

Check out the curriculum. Tempe Preparatory Academy high schoolers get a classic liberal arts education.

It makes no difference. The problem is that the Left has taken Separation of Church and State way beyond it’s original intended meaning.
The Original meaning being that the State will not promote and Establish a state religion like the Church of England.
The Liberals have taken that issue and twisted it to encompass all manner of things to eradicate religion from all aspects of like.

That said, "he can't do that with our students," Dr. Baum stated bluntly.

Actually, he can ... Anywhere and anytime he wants UNLESS he is coercing someone. But there's no suggestion this was anything other than a voluntary association for prayer.

Well, that was quick. It took a lot more time to get to Jerry Sandusky, but he wasn’t caught praying. He was caught prEying, which is apparently a lesser offense.

*This is a violation of his constitutional rights. He should sue.*

If he sues he will surely win!

He should set American Center for Law and Justice after the godless school administration.

Jay don’t play.

Why are the Socialists in the public schools allowed to force the religion of secular atheism down student’s throats?

Just one more example of a taxpayer paid government employee(the principal) using his authority to attack Christians.

If he told the players that Allah is great and you should behead Jews and Christians, he would be fine.

At our high school football team we had a guy named old guy Erny who was a Pentecostal preacher and man did he pray up a storm before every game...

We even had a couple Jewish kids on the team...Nobody seemed to mind...

BTW, we were state champs...

I’d sue the crap outta these b******* while others pressure the school board and politicians to force them out.

No one, NO ONE, deserves a job after acting like that
